turned out really nice. I had to smile when you said you made it for your daughter and she already put in an order for a headboard :)) I did the same with my Dad 40 some years ago. After we finish our kitchen, I'm going to work on trimming up the chest my Dad made me when I was probably 5. Don't have the headboard anymore though.

Mr John, You are welcome and thank you for your support. I am about to retire from the Service and do woodwork as my retirement hobby/job and your videos and instructions are unique and has given me higher standards to apply into my projects. Thank you again and it has been a dream to serve this country. And now I am about to start teaching injured Warriors how to do woodworking for therapy, even with injuries sustained at war and get back to living again. I hope you dont mind me using your guidance and procedures. sincerely, SFC Sanchez Torres (jeannette Torres is my wife) God bless

Jon, I'll have to place this chest on my my project list. Thirty-five or so years ago one of my first woodworking projects was a blanket/hope chest for a girlfriend, As I shake off just over 20 years of rust and dust from my woodworking skills this would certainly go a long way to reintroducing myself to old abilities, especially miter (mitre) cuts. If my daughter gives me the go ahead for a hope chest and my son does the same for toy box for my granddaughter, I will be a building a version or two of this chest. On another note, the changes in your shop from this video to the current videos is incredible. As I work to reclaim my shop, I find your shop very inspiring.

I saw the spackle in the back ground. Then I heard you say you use it to fill nail holes and small cracks. A few months ago I made a cabinet for my daughter with junky scrap plywood and pine. The plywood was rough and all the sanding in the world was not going to help. After a long debate with myself, I decided to use spackle knowing it was going to be painted. Worked so well it is all I use to fill all my painted projects. Thanks for the confirmation.

This is excellent work Jon, very impressive. Question about the paint though. I'm always struggling with latex paint over poplar because even after a couple of days of drying, the painted surface still feels sticky. A bookshelf I did literally took several months to lose that tacky feeling and harden to complete dry. The semigloss paints are the worst because they quickly gum up paintbrushes and leave tons of brushmarks. To minimize I thin out with water and sand in between coats, but that just takes too long as 4 or 5 watered down coats are needed...
@2upcruiser7099 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken. I had that same problem. I did some research on the latex and a lot of times it can have a high water content. Be patient in between coats of paint. The tacky feeling you're getting is caused by the additional layers of paint are not letting the previous coats dry thoroughly. That along with moisture content in the poplar. Hope this helps.

Does the BM paint dry hard? The few times I've used latex paint, I wasn't happy with how tacky the piece is even weeks after drying. For any project that has to match trim paint in a room and I have to use latex paint, I will put a clear coat over the paint.

well, I think so.... but I do like oil paint better, some times I just have the dry time.
