This tutorial shows how to make a substantial cuff bracelet with a pretty Malachite cabochon. It is an intermediate level project, and requires a torch that produces substantial heat. For materials, I used 8 gauge sterling half round wire, 14 gauge sterling square wire, 26 gauge sterling sheet, 3/16 inch fine silver bezel strip in 26 gauge, and some scrap silver to make balls. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful? Scroll down for information on my new Patreon!

I’m glad you said that because most people won’t actually tell beginners that it shouldn’t take more than 30-40 seconds to get things heated up and I think it causes a lot of frustration and tire stain.

I have a lot of followers using the little butane portable torches, and they just don’t produce much heat, so they end up trying to do a larger piece with inadequate heat. Having a decent torch makes a huge difference:)

@@chadssilversmithingit really does. I made a video about a cheaper option for a propane/oxygen torch. I actually was able to upgrade the oxygen tank to a larger one so I don’t run out as fast and it works really well. If you have anyone asking, I’d be grateful if you refer them to that video. They can at least get an idea of what they will need.

I love how the bracelet turned out. That cuff design is really cool. I appreciate your showing the soldering step by step with all the different elements. it's very helpful. I have a ruby cabochon I want t o set into a cuff bracelet and I think this type of design would be great. It's an irregular shaped stone so circles may not be the way to go, but we shall see! I also really appreciate your listing the materials and gauges as well. that is SUPER helpful. Many other content creators don't think about that, so thank you! : )

Sooo Lovely, I adore big chunky jewels! I cut and polish malachite. One needs to be cautious due to the copper that makes the beautiful color in the stone. But other than that it is a fun stone to work with for jewelry

Gorgeous project, thanks! May I ask, why do you have the end you aren’t working on elevated while soldering?
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing 7 ай бұрын
Good question Sherrie. I should have explained that. The central wire was underneath the bezel making it impossible to put it flat down on the pad. I had to bend each side a bit in order to make that happen. To keep it flat, I put a ball underneath the other side so it wouldn’t be elevated at all on the side I was working on. I hope I’m not planning that well enough:)

Beautiful bracelet! I love to make cuff bracelets, but haven’t made one quite like yours. Chad I’ve watched a couple of videos now, that you point up in the corner of your video and say you will add a link to a previous video, but you didn’t add the link. I would really like to see the video you were referring to, about the bezel solder seam running into the other solder?

@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing 2 ай бұрын
Yes:). If you solder any decorations to the sides of the bezel and the band, when you bend it, it pulls on the bezel, distorting it. If you send a pic to my instagram, I can give you a better idea of what is going on though.
