3 Ways to Set Faceted Teardrop Stones: A Silversmithing Tutorial

This tutorial shows how to make 3 different settings for teardrop or pear shaped stones. The bezel setting is probably intermediate level and I would categorize the other two as advanced. For materials, I used16 (1.3 mm) and 18 (1.02 mm) gauge sterling round wire, 12 (2.01 mm) gauge sterling square wire, and 22 gauge (.66 mm) sterling sheet. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux.

I really like all 3. I’m much better at bezel setting, than prong setting, but this is helpful because the two prong set designs are kind of midway.

hiya dont know what your thoughts are but i think the titanium solder pick far out ways the the old skinny ones, only had mine a short while but i have found a change already much better control easy pick up more accurate placing with it being that bit wider. and very sharp point for spot placing.

Hello! So your video already has a lot of views!! Great! I have a question about setting pear shaped cabochons in filigree wire. Yes, I'm embarrassed. I made the quickest setting in a long time, checking the fit all the way--then once it was done: cab wouldn't fit. Aaaagh. After that I kept melting any new versions. Do you find that a setting will "shrink" a tiny bit after soldering it? Thanks.

Hello S. Magdaleno. I have had other people talk about similar problems. Most of the time I haven't experienced that, but once in a while something I make seems tighter than it seemed at first. Perhaps there is something to that. Anybody else have this problem before? I always assumed when it happened to me I had just gotten overzealous on my filing:)
