Jenny Doan demonstrates how to make a cute, modern Christmas quilt using 10 inch squares of precut fabric (layer cakes). Jenny shows two different quilt block layouts, one with chevrons and one with pinwheels, and each requires only half a pack of 10 inch squares. That means you can make both quilts with one layer cake stack! This easy holiday project would be a fun Christmas wallhanging or holiday bedspread.

I made this quilt for my stepmom while she was in a skilled nursing facility in Nov and Dec 2018. I added tiny snaps all over the tree and made ornaments and a string of "lights" with snaps on them so that her 6-year-old grandchildren could help her decorate the tree when they visited her. The tree quilt itself is super easy to make - it took me about 4 hours to assemble and my LAQ had it quilted for me that same day. My stepmom was so happy to have a little Christmas in her room.

Omgosh! Nothing like making it difficult to choose. LOVE them both! I really like that this pattern has a more gradual tree design than the others that I've seen, they look tipsy. I'm going to tackle this one. Can I just come and live there among your material...it's SO beautiful.

i LOVE this tutorial. hanging this up on the wall is a great way for people like me who have limited space and cats- who do not use a traditional christmas tree. it woud also be wonderful to use in a guest room for the holidays! while i was watching you i thought- how easy and CUTE would it be, to sew strategically placed button holes throughout the tree portion- so you could use a string of LED lights (which stay cool)- and poke the light portion from the back throught the buttonhole. plug it in and your tree lights up! also, i would have so much fun making some sewn ornaments that could easily be attached on the quilt with velcro (or safety pins). just pack it up in a vaccuum bag and bring it out every december. PS. I like both options- chevron and pinwheel. the pinwheel is superfun because you could make individual 1/2 square triangles and make it totally scrappy! i am going to try this idea and reduce the size of block to make a wall hanging. thank you, jenny! God bless

Adorable green tree! Instead of chevron block in the the second row (of the chevron) could be just the same fabric, but as a 4 1/2 square, so its more "full looking" instead of the white space.
