Make a Citrine Solitaire Ring: A Silversmithing Tutorial

This tutorial shows how to make a classic high setting solitaire ring. I would call this one an advanced project. The stone in this one is a 7mm pale Citrine, sometimes called Lemon Quartz. For materials, I used 12 gauge sterling square wire, and 14 gauge sterling square wire. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. Hey chad, i have a stone which is 13mm round but shallow at 6mm. Do i try a basket setting or would i do a setting like you just showed us?

Hmm, I think a basket would be less likely to accentuate how shallow it is. The pavilion on the one I did here was pretty deep and wide so it sat nicely in this setting. Not sure how a flatter stone would sit and look:)
