Fabulous ! Bought a large bolt of heavy scrap fabric at a discount/Goodwill for $6. I cut it so I could use the cool, fuzzy selvages as an edge along the bottom of this cover for my 1958 Singer 404. Gave a very nice, finished look. Now to get busy making more for my other vintage machines !!!! Also making one for my guitar amplifier. Thanks for this video.

I recently purchased a new, large Babylock Altair embroidery/sewing machine that came with a stiff heavy cover. I actually just want to make a lightweight cover, so might not use the chalk cloth, BUT I must say your directions are so crisp & clear. I'm sad this this is an old video and the printable is no longer available, but I'm pretty sure I can figure it out. Love your funny comments along the way! I'm a fan and BTW I made the quilt that you and Jenny Doan demo'd in an old KZbin. Keep on sewing!

Great project! I just bought (well in October) an industrial machine that I need a cover for. This is perfect! And thank you Rob for always being "human". The fact that you can laugh at yourself as your thread is running away means the world to me.

Perfect timing for this project! I need to make a couple of covers for my machines and you've just made it easy to figure out the measurements. I think I may try cutting just 3 sides for the handle access on one to minimize dust as I do not carry them often. Thanks Rob!
@jojosewist89213 жыл бұрын
I have been throwing ideas around for a flap of some sort to keep dust out of handle aea while machine is setting out in my house also. Plus a pocket for pedal and cord. and another pocket for the manual, as I keep it near whenever sewing. Just in case I need to check on something. But this is an excellent tutorial to get me started. Thanks for sharing. I am going to use a cheap plastic tablecloth as the fabric. I may line it and I may not.

I like the simplicity of this machine cover; however, I think when I make mine with the handle hole, I will not have a large hole for the handle which will let in the dust. I plan to make the slot for the handle and a flap across under the handle with a closure of some type. I haven't decided if that will be just a button and elastic loop or velcro. I always learn something new from your tutorials and get additional ideas. Thanks. Keep up the great tutorials.
@oldtimerlee88205 жыл бұрын
Make a flap to put over that handle opening. Just a rectangle of fabric, a little larger than the handle opening. Finished on all four sides. Sew (top stitch) one long side adjacent to the opening. With the handle of your machine down, the flap will cover the opening. When you need the handle up, just raise the flap and pull up your handle. Once in the up position, the handle, itself, should hold the flap in place. If necessary, with the handle up, just fold the flap to the underside of the cover. Thus, best of both worlds, easy to transport with cover. And, dust free covering when the machine isn't in use. Hope this helps.

Thanks! You make it look so easy. I try to make covers like that, but by the time I get to the last side, one of the pieces it's always a touch longer, and they don't match up. I feel that my pieces are square, but they don't line up. I'm very new to sewing.
@jojosewist89213 жыл бұрын
Simon Panter: The fabric may have stretched as you were sewing. If it is not too much difference, just cut excess off. Just be sure other side fits whatever it has to be sewn to. Be careful as stitching and try not to pull on the fabric. As Rob said just let the machine move it. You may need to use a walking foot, it keeps both pieces of a seam even. Good Luck
