if you iron freezer paper on the inside of the shirt before you put the stencil or mask on it'll reduce bleeding and feathering

Do you mean so its shiny side is facing up inside? I am guessing the science behind this is that it stiffens the fabric of the shirt to void less movement of the bleach. Not easy to find freezer paper around here, but will give it a shot. Seems like a cheaper solution then to vinyl and any bleed effect would add to the design, imo. Especially in a stary sky-scrape.

Normally bleach scares me because I have accidentally bleached clothing in spots in the past, but it would be interesting and fun to bleach some on purpose. :) The cold water and peroxide info is very helpful. Thank you, Jennifer!

I don't have a Cricut but my family and I are going to a sasquatch festival for my bday lol.. Instead of paying $20 a shirt I bought a set of sasquatch stencils from Amazon for $8. I've heard about the bleaching method so fingers crossed that it works out for me! I'm just going to take some of our old cotton tshirts and try it. I love the idea and for my family of 5 to be festive for a fraction of the price is a win win!!!

Thank you for sharing this. My husband was upset because he had the chlorine discolor some shirts when he was treating the pool (just a few spots where it splashed). I told him I had seen this type of thing done & he liked the idea (especially since it'll save his shirts). So, I plan on doing a Harry Potter design one for him for our upcoming trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios.

I have seen this done many times, but was always scared to do it myself Jennifer. Maybe now I will try it since you did it step by step. Jennifer, I don't understand how the moon with flowers got bleached. Did you just spray it with bleach and out it on the shirt?
@JenniferMaker
@JenniferMaker 5 жыл бұрын
For that one, you just do opposite. So you would create your shape and weed the positive space vs. the negative. Apply it to your shirt and protect the other areas of your shirt that you don't want to get bleached. Then spray the bleach on the same way, only it's in the positive space this time...not the negative. :)

Hi, durning the video after you bleached there was a moment you seemed to use something to enhance the back end of the Falcon and made other random marks but I couldn’t catch what it was, it looked like a glue stick which I’m sure it’s not, any ideas....

Can’t find the project - Millennium Falcon bleach shirt that you show in the video - please help!! I’ve searched it on Cricut Design Space

Oh, gosh, Charlotte, that is one of MY designs! You can always get the SVG's from my Library - instructions to get the file are shown in the Dropdown box underneath my videos! And then just follow the tutorial here in the video for the instructions on how to make a shirt of your own! But, here is how to get to the Millennium Falcon file! 😍 jennifermaker.com/bleach-stencil-shirt/

I want to make a orange and black shirt like your moon flower one, is it the same process as the falcon one? thanks! I am getting into the whole bleach shirt thing.

Yes it is the same process you just need to protect the part of the shirt you don't want the bleach on! 💕

Thank you for the helpful video. Someone on Facebook uses this technique but also added color back by using Tulip spray fabric paint. At what point do you think they added back the color? Did they do it on the bleached, but not washed shirt OR do you think they washed/dryed the shirt and then sprayed the color? Thank you!

Did your ever find an answer? I'm attempting this exact method this weekend. Bought tulip color shot but not sure at what point to spray the bleached out parts with it! No answers anywhere..

@@blancagonzales2444 I did not receive an answer but I did figure it out. Here’s how I made mine. Create your stencil on your cricket machine using permanent vinyl. Transfer to the shirt and use a brayer to really secure it as best you can. Keep the shirt flat I put plastic between the two layers and plastic around the areas that I did not want to bleach out. I did this outside and in the sun. Then I used bleach, 50% bleach 50 And used a fine spray bottle creating a oval where I wanted to bleach out the T-shirt. If you do it in the sun it goes really quickly. Once it’s lightened up as much as you want put it into a mixture of peroxide and water this will neutralize the bleach so that it doesn’t ruin the fabric. I then ran it through my washer on a spin cycle. Take the shirt lay it flat just for safety put plastic between the two layers again. At this point you would have already removed the stencil after you bleached. Now take this tulip spray dye and spritz the colors over the bleached areas. You will notice that they absorb and color the bleach portions of the shirt and they leave the black areas black. So where you made your stencil and removed it from the shirt will now remain black. Once you get as much color as you want on the shirt then you just let it lay for a couple days then remove the plastic between the layers and run it through the washer. So far I made three and it was simple and quick.
