Nice baby quilt. I did a similar quilt, but sewed my matching HST into blocks of 4. It’s a lot easier than trying to get the right order in rows. Love that primary colours are red, yellow blue where you are, the rest of the world includes green lol
@sisterchicksquilting2 жыл бұрын
Seriously?!? Because as you and I know green is made from mixing blue and yellow which makes it a secondary color🤣💚📗🦠🔋📟🤣🤣 You know I didn’t think of sewing the HST’s into a block, that would have been easier. Thanks for watching my channel and commenting😊‼️

Love this monochromatic scheme. Trimming on the seam line SAVES so much time, and it is so accurate. You are saving 50% of your time in cutting. I would likely deploy the eight at a time method for these blocks. Smart chick on your garanimal pinning method. (P.S. I have those same snips which I put on a lanyard.). Everyone should have a triangle ruler that has lines perpendicular to the diagonal AND with the appropriate marks (I like to have 1/4" marks). Some just 1/2 " marks. So much easier than trying to use a regular square ruler with the 45 on the edge. You have to look edge to edge, and it is so much less of a clear visual. Have fun on your retreat!

I love this little quilt! So cute! I have been paying attention to your pinning method, but I was sondering if you have made a video that really teaches all the ins and outs of your method. I get so turned around sometimes about which way and what to put together! You really have it figured it out down to a science!

I love this quilt and hadn't realized the calming effect of a monochromatic colour pallet. I seldom buy fat quarters, and assumed they were mostly used for intricate, smaller cutting and piecing, so my stash is mostly layer cakes and charm packs. Who knew that 8 fat quarters would produce such a lovely quilt. I do now! Thanks again for sharing, and have a blast at your retreat!
@sisterchicksquilting2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lynda, we’re probably having too much fun. Glad you liked the quilt💙❣️
@kathleenmayhorne31832 жыл бұрын
A fat quarter is very versatile, at around 18" by 22" or half of the wof. You can cut a 10" strip and get 2 squares with a bit left over, cut a 5" strip, for 4 charm squares, and still have a 2 1/2" strip for small squares. You can add a colour to pre-cuts, or cut two 2 1/2" strips to mimic one jelly roll strip, 1 fq can make 3 1/2 jelly roll size strips. 1/4 yard can't give you quite so many large pieces, so this works out, just that bit better. You can make your own pre-cuts, or cut up a lot of small squares, for leaders and enders or bonus quilts, use up "ugly fabrics," for scrappy quilts. (10" + 5" + 2 1/2"= 17 1/2") or (10" + 5 1/2" + 2 3/4" = 18 1/4")You can cut 5 1/2" squares for a 4-patch to go with 10" squares, 2 3/4" does a 4-patch to fit with 5 1/2" squares. I like odd pieces for sample blocks etc., to see if I like doing them, before I cut up the really nice fabrics. All the options blew my mind when I heard of them first. Have fun.

@@kathleenmayhorne3183 Wow, thank you for doing all that calculation for me! I have looked at fat quarters and always thought you should buy the whole collection for a cohesive look. But now I realise what you can do with just a handful of them. Thanks, Kathleen, for enlightening me!

What about cutting up men’s dress shirts from a thrift store? Then you would only have to come up with the background or solid fabric. Could you use an old sheet? Also from the thrift store. I always loved repurposing fabric from clothing. Thanks for watching😊❤️🐥
