I keep finding myself thinking on what I have on hand that could be used to make one ... I guess that means I'll eventually be doing just that. No operating mill (the one I do have is a little'un anyway) so that means sorting out a way of mounting my 'nearly way too large' vise to the shaper table. The fun of shop building ... wanting to make something and discovering just how ill equipped you really are.

Thank you for the tips and this and your other ‘films’ (I guess i'm dateing myself with ‘films’- 76 years) I still have a small ball peen hammer I made in metal shop class, lo these many years. Never did get the nurling right. I remember making a center punch. After heat treating the teached would drop it point down on the floor. If the heat treating was correct no damage occoured.

Enjoying this series, just wish the individual videos were about twice as long and you did it in five parts instead of 10. 15 min isn’t long enough for a shop vid. Guess I can just wait till the entire series is released and binge watch. Great content though!

It would not be difficult to make a steel collar that would be pinned (or affixed with Loctite) to the threaded rod to make that larger shoulder which is included on the original Acme threaded rod.

It's in Ennglish....sort of! But I bet your followers will have a great time trying to figure out what it is. To what email address can I send the attachment 'instructions'.

Best practice would be to use your edge finder to pick up the fixed jaw of your vise, NOT your moveable jaw. Also, scribing lines on parts with calipers is all fine and well with your JUNK calipers, not your best calipers, for what it's worth. Just my 2 cents worth. Neat project however.

Okay Mr. Pete, you're picking up our bad habits, using the tips of your calipers to scribe lines. Don't you think you should show your viewers the proper tool for inscribing the lines? Using hermaphrodite calipers. (Had to look up the spelling in my Starrett Tool Catalog)

Great project Mr. Pete! I loved the drill mill use. I don't see them used often, but find mine very handy. If you want to try out some U.S. made carbide cutters that don't cost an arm and a leg I recommend Onlinecarbide.com. I am not connected to them in any way except that I am a satisfied customer that finds their cutters the equal of any of the name brands for way less money.
