How to Create a Paint By Numbers Template
To create a Paint by Numbers template, start by clicking the Tools button in the toolbar. Under Creative, select Paint by Numbers. In the Effects and Layers panel, adjust the number of colors using the Colors up/down arrows. Once you've made your selections, choose your desired output type, and then click Save, Print or New Image.

The Paint by Numbers tool generates a painting template from an image. To create a Paint by Number project, simply navigate to the Effects tab, click the Tools button. Under Creative, select Paint by Numbers.
There are several options that you can adjust in the Paint by Numbers effect layer, you can use the defaults or adjust them. Adjust the total number of colors using the Colors control. Type in a number or use the up/down arrows. Increasing this number will provide a more accurate representation of your image. You can also adjust the detail level with the Region Size slider: slide left for a more realistic look or right for a simplified version. Additionally, the Smoothing slider allows you to control the sharpness of the region contours; drag left for sharper edges and right for smoother, more blended shapes.
When you’re satisfied with your adjustments, select your output type by clicking one of the radio buttons. If you choose 'Original', no changes will be applied. Selecting 'Painted' will show a preview of your image as if it were painted. For an uncolored template with outlines and numbers for guidance, select 'Painting Template'. The 'Color Key' option generates a list of colors used in the template along with their corresponding numbers. Selecting the 'Image, Template, and Colors' option will combine all output types into a single image.
After selecting your output type, you can easily save or print your image using the buttons at the bottom of the layer. If you’d like to create a new PhotoPad project with the current output type and image, simply click the Create New Image button. To reset the effect to its default settings, click the Reset button.
