I used to travel a lot for work but I would collect Harley shot glasses. I'm definitely making this for them, just smaller. Thanks for the idea.

Cool! I have about 5 Hard Rock Cafe shot glasses, but will make a different rack just for those.

For earthquake areas, you could make the recesses into holes so the base of the cup is in the wood. It’d still display the logos, but the glasses would be more secure. Fun project as always, Steve!

Hi Jason, thanks! Yeah, I was thinking about doing that. Wasn't sure how it would look though. I could do a test and deepen the holes with a forstner bit I guess.

Super video. Thank you. For myself, I'm in the process of replacing my X-Carve with another CNC. But this will take time, I have to modify an old industrial CMM I bought this week, it's a beast, over 1000lbs, unfortunately the x an y will be smaller but 12" for the Z. But I don't know when it will work, I have to rely on machinists to make all the missing pieces, I'm only keeping the air bearing mechanical parts of this 1990 machine.

Steve, Glad you were able to use your Xcarve. Good project for it. Now the wife knows where you spent your evenings after work while traveling. That’s a lot of Hard Rock beverages you consumed - haha. I think I saw a couple Guitar shaped swizzle sticks.
@SteveCarmichael
@SteveCarmichael 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mac! It was cool cutting the whole thing out on the cnc, especially when it's so hot. Just getting to the Hard Rock Cafe is a pain in most cities, since they are usually in a downtown area where it's hard to park and get around. Each one has an adventure story behind it. Like for Philadelphia, I landed at the airport and took the subway to it, then took the subway back to the airport before getting my rental car. lol

Good call on the rods/earthquake protection. I would be more worried about Mr. Clumsy (me) bumping into it like a dope and destroying my keepsakes. BTW, I collect key chains from the countries that I visit, which are less likely to break. :p

The stringy outcome is the wood's fault, but in the sense that, the cutter wasn't suited for that grain. I would use the remainder of such wood to practice feeds and speeds, which can alleviate (to some extent) how stringy or chipped, the wood is cut. Ultimately the thumb rule is always the same, the sharper the better, and death by a thousand small punches, IE more flutes. One other thing to consider, how much vibration is in the frame of the X carve and where you can cut some of that down. I use mostly metal tools (aluminium ones) for any wood project short of hardwoods, and quite fast speeds at decent feeds, but that's my jam, each machine, is its own playground. All that jamble being said, great project. Neat and simple, doesn't rob from the glasses being the center of the exhibit.

Thanks! I thought it was odd that I bought the two board from the same stack, and one cut better than the other with the same bit and settings. I thought it might have something to do with the part of the tree it came from.

I couldn't quite make out the cities from the video. I've been to Hard Rocks in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels at Grand Place, Chicago, Dallas, Helsinki, Indianapolis, Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel, London, Madrid, Munich, Orlando, Oslo, Paris, Prague, Rome, San Francisco, St. Louis and Stockholm. I used to collect a white T shirt and a white sweatshirt. They're all long gone by now.

Hey man, no I don't. Is there still a location there? That would be a good one for me to visit since it's driving distance. It was shaped like a pyramid? Wow, I'll have to google pics of that.

@@SteveCarmichael Yea Man, its still their. However the pyramid was demolished in favor of a modern design which is a shame. But the pyramid had a egyptian rock and roll theme. It was awesome. You may also wanna check out house of blues in Myrtle as well. Lots of bands have played their. The new style hard rock cafe is at broadway at the beach.
