Great work on this and also being a traditional archer for hunting here in the states, you have a good eye for shooting. It is not easy hitting a soda bottle like you did in those shots. Keep up the good work. I think I have to make one of these soon. BTW I make my own wooden longbows so this should be a snap comparatively speaking!

For those asking about how long they last, I've made a number of PVC bows and they last great in warmer weather. I live in Michigan so it's pretty cold here part of the year. Mine worked great when it was warm but were stiff when it got cold. I also noticed just working with PVC that I've had it break when I was working with it when it was very frozen cold. So, I'd keep the bowing to non frozen weather. They made good cheap bows for the kids to practice with in the summer. I'd just be careful with the stronger draws in winter.

Re the comments about the recurve, the improvements over a simple bow are twofold, first the action of the bow-tips on release is straight forward whereas from a simple bow it is outwards and forward together so the simple bow doesn't have as much forward action. The second gain is that at full draw a recurve bow is at it's longest, allowing the archer to draw a greater weight, but in effect as the string wraps around the recurve on release it makes the bow shorter, and shorter bows are faster in action.

Thanks for posting. It gonna make me look at PVC a little different from now on. If you mass produce these things, you could probably start up a PVC drop-off, and recycling center. And make the products of different sorts from the discarded PVC tubing. But, they look like they'd be great for bow fishing. Good day mate.

Tarred twine bank line makes great bow strings. Do Not Buy At Walmart-very little tar on the line. You want some stiff enough from the tar that when you pull 6 inches off the roll it won't go limp. If the 6 inches stays straight out perpendicular to the roll then it's good bank line. There is good bank line on Amazon for $15-$20. For different sizes go here www.amazon.com/SGT-KNOTS-Tarred-Twine-Bank/dp/B00EVX5OLC

Slumerica Über Alles Definitely do not use paracord. It is too thick. Tarred twine works very well and you can get 1,000 ft or more for $15-20. It also comes in very handy for building a lean to and making nets for hammocks or whatever. Very versatile cordage.

A very nice idea for a bow, i like it a lot. A well put together video, well done. I would suggest using something like B50 Dacron for a string, and it can still be made fast on top while the loop that goes over the lower-limb can be made to be removed from the notched end. The method that you use for the bowstring is a lot like a tribe in africa uses for their bows (i just do not recall the name of the tribe), which are pieced in the one limb, but there are some differences also. I would also put a knocking point on the string, it can be made with something as simple as wrapping dental floss around the string, since when you use a sight, it is important that you knock the arrow at the same spot each time.

I build authentic native American bows, long bows and am about to start an Asian horn bow when I find the right pieces of horn. A friend, also a bower, and I decided to build one of these pvc bows just out of curiosity. It was kinda fun to play with, but the limbs are so heavy for the draw weight they are SLOW! In this video it looks pretty good, but shoot it next to a hickory or osage bow of the same draw weight and you'll see what I mean. Fun toy though! Cheap and easy to make, Good for archery tag or golf. Have fun, just don't expect alot of speed or real power.

***** Awesome!!! I love it when brilliant persistent people work together and share their achievements with all who look for answers! Please, how did you get such impressive results without the bow being heavy and cumbersome? Bravo! Would also enjoy reading the results of any penetration test you've run, arrow weight, target type ext. You've got me excited now! Answers please?!
