This video shows my ribbon controller in action along with a bit of a description on how it works. I also included schematic to the little synth I use to demonstrate it.
if you are interested in making your own, I've published a step by step guide on Instructables . Link below:

As I was watching I was thinking "wonder how far away he is from a Theremin?'. ..... and what does he say.... "next thing I'm thinking about making ..... Theremin ... having an LDR ....". I'm looking forward to that.

Initially I built a circuit using a modified theremin circuit and it sounded ok. Actually, it sounded similar to record scratching which also gave me a few ideas...

You have so many fun projects! Great vids and intructions too, I really appreciate it. :) Also I'm finally getting some good ideas on what to use these old military lamps I've got for.

How much was it to make and is there a way to make it able to do two notes at once? (I'm trying to figure out a way to make a DIY Roli Seabord Block)

It would be interesting to convert those resistances to MIDI data and control a softsynth with this...

I'm looking at this right now with a view to doing that via an arduino.

@@sailingshadowfax7518 I most definitely will be. Actually I think it's going to turn into a series. I have plenty of pots and sliders as well as the pads from an MPC. Thinking of having multiple arduinos in the same box, dbeam controllers, footpedal. Working Name: Megatron 3000

I usually find them hunting around junk stores and there’s a great shop at my local tip/dump where they sell all types of pieces for next to nothing. This one was from an old flashlight

Do they make these strip resistors but with a hall effect so you can run a magnet across instead of a finger?

the plastic that is underneath the plastic, are there holes in it. Is there a slot there to make it touch the copper. I mean I get the gist of it. But it's kind of unclear how it looks underneath the black plastic strip, which I think is a videotape... Right? Could you maybe post some pictures or explain in a bit more detail how this looks as it is sandwiched together. I'm kind of new to this diy stuff, so please forgive my ignorance.

Is the metal strip actually brass, instead of copper ? I'm asking because it appears to have a metallic yellow appearance.

I'm pretty sur it was copper. However, it wouldn't really matter too much if you used either metal
