There's many people in western NC who sure could use these right now.

Reminds me my grandmother had a xmas do dad with a skinnier candle underneath, and floating angels on top, with strips of metal hanging from the angels. The heat from the candle will make it go around like merry go round and the strips would hit little bells on base. Tinkling. Same principle! Thanks for the memory!!!

I have an old waterbsth canner full of sand on my woodstove and it will still be giving off head 4_5 hours after the actual fire goes out.

I've found that some tea candles give off a lot of heat, and others give off virtually none. Discovered this using the clay flower pot heater. Make sure you have hot candles before you stock up!
@desertsun02Күн бұрын
it seems to depend a lot on how thick the wick is. the ones they sell at walmart have a surprisingly strong flame. almost as strong as a wick of a taper candle (and taper candles are some of the strongest).

Try a circular pattern that surrounds a center support for the fan. Tea lights on the perimeter (6-8?) and one larger glass candle in the center. One upside down "U" strip over each tea light.

Nice, Can this keep a small or large room warm?
@richardmorrow804810 сағат бұрын
Definitely got to have the candles not too close to the copper or they will soot up and cause the room to smell a bit. Can't get the same temp as you, still experimenting with the set up...

I was thinking of filling a pot like that and setting it on my wood burner in my work shop. Do you think the stove would heat up the sand to much? Or would this set up be better?
@desertsun022 күн бұрын
hi. i don't think your wood burner would heat it up too much (but use your best judgement). these fans can handle up to 662F(350C). this setup i made tops out a little under 400F(205C).

I have a pot on my stove and it is still giving off heat at 9am the next morning when the actual fire went out about 3am.

@@desertsun02 400? I didn't think it would give off that much heat. I gotta try this now. Thanks for the info.

@@jlyoung4848 I still plan on giving it a try, good to know someone else was thinking the same thing.

@chrismead1464 hi. copper tops at about 400F with 2 candles on it and around 300F (with one candle on it). sand temps near surface can be 220-275F but probably higher if you run it longer, use more candles or use candles with a thicker wick.
@myoutdoorlife38332 күн бұрын
Very interesting! I'd be curious if you would put this in a room that would be let's say 20°, after an hour how much would the room temperature increase? That would be interesting to see! Great idea! Another great video!

i haven't tried rubbing alcohol but it might work if you had a few smaller alcohol lamps

I love this, for my non heated craft room. Been using a ceramic heater as my heat source. Looking forward to making this. Question what type of sand are you using?
@desertsun022 күн бұрын
hi and thank you! i'm using a white 'play sand'. it comes 'cleaned and filtered. you can get play sand at the home stores (home depot, lowes) for 5 to 7 dollars. (for a 50 lb. bag). this project uses maybe 20 to 25 lbs. btw, the copper i'm using is 24 gauge. the curved pieces should be 10" to 12" long. they sell copper sheet on amazon

Do you think this will work as good with table salt? Also what did you use to cut the metal into strips?
@desertsun02Күн бұрын
it would probably work okay with the salt (but i couldn't say for sure). i used tin snips to cut the copper 👍🙂⭐

Where did you get the fan?
@desertsun022 күн бұрын
hi. i got it on amazon. i've actually had that smaller stove fan for 2 or 3 years now. amazon sells dozen of different models. any model that has a starting temp of 122F/50C (which is most of them) should work good. the larger fan shown in the video is also from amazon

Consider the 7" tall skinny glass prayer candles from Dollar Store.

good idea. i was thinking of getting the extended burn tealights. those can burn 6 to 10 hours (versus 4 to 5 hours for standard ones)
