I made this simple wood shop cabinet out of 15mm OSB, lots of screws, casters and a piano hinge. This is a quick and dirty project.
Tools and materials I propose:

Circular saw guide rail: amzn.to/2Cniky7
Corner clamps: amzn.to/2CkeK7G
Hand saw: amzn.to/2Cldl0J
Cordless drill: amzn.to/2A6fTOy
Router: amzn.to/2pJoDEA
Router bits: amzn.to/2NuDxYM
Casters: amzn.to/2CUOAtb
Metal square: amzn.to/2EfjfQe
Air compressor, nail and staple gun kit: amzn.to/2NMPCIH
Angle grinder: amzn.to/2E6uLAx
Grinder sanding disc adapter: amzn.to/2PvV6cv
Table saw: amzn.to/2RBf0nT
Piano hinge: amzn.to/2yqnxkL
Countersink bits: amzn.to/2Exkv2G

Nice cabinet! With the price of plywood these days, OSB has become a more acceptable material for shop use. Some of the normal plywood options when I was young are almost considered furniture-grade these days. That said, I agree with your narration that the crosscut at 2:51 is unsafe, and best done on the table saw with the miter gauge or a sled, or with another tool such as a circular saw. While the part between the fence and blade is longer than it is wide, a factor that would normally make it a safe cut, the part hanging off to your left makes it hard to control due to its greater leverage making it hard to keep both the front and the back of the piece in contact with the fence, and it is therefore easy to turn it slightly, wedge it between the fence and the blade and kick that long piece back into your belly. A table saw newbie may get a bad idea of how to use the table saw from this example.

You did a really nice job here! I might follow this design myself. However, there are a few comments I would make for others looking to build something like this. First, unless you just have to go cheap, use plywood. I personally think OSB is crap but even if you don't, at best, it is only tolerable. Plywood is so much better and for something that you think will last, you'll thank yourself later. Second, I don't think you'll need screws on the edge joints unless you must work with them prior to the glue drying. A good glue will do the trick fine. Third, I's strongly recommend going with bigger and better casters. I've got a rolling cabinet I built that's smaller than this but with bigger casters that I wish I had put bigger casters on. Finally, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE use push sticks when working anywhere near the table saw blade. Use something anytime your hand is between you and the blade, between the blade and the fence, and at least 6" to the outside of the blade. You WILL have an accident if you don't..
@vasiapupkin6446
@vasiapupkin6446 Жыл бұрын
No, not at all. OSB is no any worse than plywood for such purposes, but an order of magnitude cheaper. You only have to protect it from moisture from the edges and design it the way that edge joints are not just screws. I would just put some lacquer on freshly cut edges or paint all that entirely with some acrylic. Look at IKEA stuff: it is literally all done from particle boards, which is way weaker than the OSB. They are just using more clever joints and dowels, that's why it lasts better. On top of that, plywood also swells on edges, just like OSB, if it gets wet. The only why I would use plywood here is that OSB looks damn ugly. But for workshop cabinets to hold tools and be constantly covered with dust - there is no need to invest really a lot of money into a plywood. It is very expensive in EU: a sheet of OSB costs 17-20 EUR now, while the same sheet of plywood will cost you about 150-200 EUR. If you are talking about construction plywood (three-four layers for 22mm sheet, same application as OSB), then it is even worse, because it is not just ugly as OSB, but also weaker, is often crooked and still as thrice as expensive. That is why it is quite hard to find it here, since nobody wants to buy it.
