I like the beaded chains better for sizzle but this is great in a pinch as well. The old zildjian sizzle cymbals sound so amazing, I think Meinl is doing similar cymbals now. Zildjian may still make riveted cymbals for artists or special orders

Save yourself 20 cents, use a nickel. Because of the smooth rolled edge, it seems to have more contact with the cymbal. If you're playing lightly or with brushes, you can get more sustain by just taping on one side and you can experiment with distance from the bell to alter sustain and how it affects the tone of the cymbal.

I don’t think the “for $.25” is accurate. The quarter is still there for spending but the tape is probably not reusable. We also need to account for the labor. If we make a permanent sizzle cymbal then yes we need to to expense the quarter but also the tape and labor.
