@Armegeothm Жыл бұрын
There're two ways I contextualized the term 'dry' with respect to cymbals. The first was by pouring things into a bowl - if you pour water, it sloshes around and takes forever to settle and is really active, but if you pour like sand or something, it just kinda sits there. The other one was farts. Wet ones gonna be noticeable for a lot longer for everyone involved, and you need to washy your pants afterward.

Can I just say, I subbed specifically because I love this guy's energy. He has the energy of Mr Beast, lacks any oversaturated sarcasm, doesn't have the dry feel of watching a video essay (KZbinrs who have the feel in their voice where you can tell it is being read off of a script, like a lack of confidence) and honestly, you can audibly track the passion in this man's voice. This guy just loves cymbals, and he shows it so confidently. I love this guy, instant sub. Also, I love the addition of the old timey music. The old music that you get in 1940's TV ads combined with this guy's voice and the chaos that occurs in this video is such an entertaining mix. It feels like it should be a serious lecture about cymbals and what it means when someone calls one dry or washy, but the chaos and the inflection of this guy make it sound more genuine and passionate. In conclusion, this video is a great example of a good video essay, it feels loved, passionate, upbeat, and energetic, as if this guy just really fucking loves cymbals and he uploaded this video and made this channel specifically to show us that. God-tier video, 8194/10.

I have two with the original hammering pattern. I love them. I did a cover gig with it and after that gig I used it on a straight ahead jazz gig. The guitarist really liked it and even asked what it was. I've even used it on metal gigs, and it still managed to be heard. I'll usually throw the Dry Dark Ride up for those situations. Those Dry Rides have been my go to since 2015. I've used either of them on the tracks that I appear on for former Talk Show (STP side project) singer, Dave Coutts. The song Teargas In August is where I play my "studio" ride, but I think I used my "road" Dry Ride for the others that I'm on. Very versatile cymbal for sure!

I don't know much about cymbals, but I do understand some physics. I think the reason one cymbal sounding more dry than the other "identical" one is because the more dry cymbal has a lot of smaller pits, absorbing the vibrations faster. The difference is very visible.

I have to say, I love that 21" special dry part 2, the crash is for crash, the china is for crash, the open high hat is for crash, the ride is for tone. I’ve never paid attention enough to realize the HUGE difference there is between cymbal sounds. It seems like it comes down to flat/sharp or sustain/mute. But that’s just how I translate the difference. I like the flatter, more muted sound for a ride (more than I expected). Evidently there’s a reason why there are crash cymbals and ride cymbals. I just figured I could hit a ride harder and substitute for a crash. Now I see the error of my ways.
