This tutorial shows how to make a great setting for an oval cabochon. This stone is a 10x12 mm piece of Turquoise. This is a good beginner project for someone who has learned a little soldering and wants to practice. For materials, I used 3 mm sterling triangle wire, #,4 low dome sterling half-round wire, and 3/16 inch (4.76 mm) fine silver bezel. As always, I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande.
It is important to use safe practices when dealing with fire, sharp tools, and chemicals. Here is a video on safety: • General Silversmithing...

Thank you so much for this tutorial! It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! I did start, you gave me the courage🙏. I wish so much a could give back more for the amazing things you’ve taught me-one day I will. I’d love to send you one of my precious stones though-I’m terrified I’ll ruin it and I know you could make something amazing with it! Thanks so much again Chad!

This is one of my favorite rings to make. Looks great. Who cares if you air file, it gets the job done. Hey now, careful who you call an old geezer! P.S. I use tobacco or cardboard. It’s the old way. Since you’ve already called us old geezers you’ll know.

Hehe. The idiom I almost said was "within spitting distance." Next thing you know I'll be calling things "the cat's pajamas," cementing my status as a geezer:)

Chad, I may be incorrect here but it rings in my mind that obtuse goes with triangle’s. It’s no big deal anyway.. btw, I am an older geezer than you are 😂. Thanks great tutorial!!

Hey, you old geezer, Chad! Jk! Love the triangle wire, great ring. I won't holler about air filing. Sometimes it just works, and there is less file chattering. I DO wonder why you don't use a piece of sand paper flat on the table for pieces that are larger than the width of your file if you are going for a flat uniform surface. I find that a file that is narrower than the piece will never produce an unmarked surface that is flat. Whatcha think? Have you tried that? You might love it. I buy various grits of those 6" round sand paper discs (220 is my favorite) the ones with sticky adhesive on them, and put two together back to back. I write the grit on them. Flat on my table/bench, they sand flat surfaces really nicely and quickly. 🌺 🌺 🌺
