It's actually stronger if you use fence railings and join using end joiners that are made for this purpose, also use 25 mm square and can buy all different angle Joiners for 25 mm at around 50 cents

Thank you for your beautiful comments ❤️ I know what you mean. Those corner joints are mostly made of thin plastic which is just pushed into the tubes. Over time, these will get loosened and need extra fasteners as I used in this job. It would be a quicker option if we use additional parts to secure the frame.

This is a good idea for lightweight stuff. Would suggest glueing the wood inside the tube, and preferable sealing the wood beforehand and the top face before it is scewed into. Wood will rot, and the your piece will come apart. For anything heavier duty, it would be a good idea to put a few screws into each piece of wood through the tubing. A better idea might be to braze/solder it which is also much easier than welding and doesn't deform the metal. $20 for a can of butane and some brazing rods.

@mohanvvip

This is the kind of thing I would do here in India without access to welding tools and other special fasteners. Why you'd do this in Australia is beyond me. That wood insert is a weak link, also moisture is bound to destroy that steel frame in no time. The screws for fixing the wire grid seem the worst kind of jugaad even an Indian would be ashamed of. But don't worry, I'm planning on making exactly the same kind of hinged window, that's why I watched this video till the end, thanks buddy! 🤣👍😂
@JyjusHomeVideos
@JyjusHomeVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your Sweet Comments and time 👍 I have done this frame in this method, is not because I don't have access to a welding machine or I am not good in welding. My only aim was to show someone who doesn't have access to a welding machine or someone who doesn't know how to do welding, How to make a frame with some basic hand tools and basic skills. For your knowledge, I am an Indian by origin and I am a Mechanical Engineer with 3 decades of Practical experience in all sorts of manufacturing techniques including welding. Regarding the timber used here : It is not a link between Steel tubes. It is only a filler material used to have threads to engage. It is a type of hard wood, not just any soft wood, used here. There is steel to steel contact in every single joint. Steel tubes are galvanized too. This particular frame in the video is still serving as the main door for my outdoor Chicken coop cum Aviary, for the past two years and I am pretty sure it will survive like new condition, for another ten years. There is not a single sign of damage after two severe Melbourne Summers and Winters ! Fixing the wire mesh with screw is the easiest way to do it. They're cap screws and holding the mesh very well. We can replace the mesh any time if we want to. Thank you again for your time and support. Good luck with your project and 👍👍

Hi Sabir, I bought them from our local hardware store in Melbourne. If not available in your area, try on eBay. Other cheaper option is to make from Galvanized steel Angles. (Pre drill holes and cut to size) Good luck !

It would be much easier to use connectubes for building a steel frame without welding. The system is super cheap and uses steel couplers and 1.5 x 1.5" square galvanized steel tubing. Self tapping screws hold the joints together. Highly recommend you learn about this building product to use for bbq frames etc...

Thank you so much for your sweet comments and feedback. I personally know many variations of tube adapters for such DIY projects. (I am a trade qualified manufacturing engineer with around 30 years of experience in various production techniques and equipment.) In this video, my aim was only to share a basic idea or tip for those who doesn’t have any welding skills or such expensive equipment and this method can be used for any sizes, shapes or materials. If you use steel or any other stronger material inserts instead of the timber inserts, this method will be the better bet than these adapters. Thank you again for your valuable feedback.

@JyjusHomeVideos
@JyjusHomeVideos 6 ай бұрын
I don’t have an exact number for this question. But if you use an insert that has enough strength, such as hard wood, metal inserts etc. you could definitely make a frame that will have a high weight limit. My door frame is still in very good condition after all these years. Thank you for your time and encouragement 😍👍

Whether this technique can be used for a weight bearing foundation structure from GI for fabricated bathroom
@JyjusHomeVideos
@JyjusHomeVideos 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your enquiry ! I don't recommend to use timber as a holding insert for a weight bearing structure, especially for a bathroom construction. Because, as the time passes by, there is a chance of water leakage or any such discharges will weaken the structure. You can use this concept, replacing timber with something, that can withstand such decay and damages. Using some sort of hard plastic inserts (such as Reinforced poly carbonate blocks) or Metal inserts (machined aluminum or steel blocks) where you need to make internal threads to use the screws (machine screws) Hope this helps 🙏

Why have a lock on it when they can just unscrew everything?
@JyjusHomeVideos
@JyjusHomeVideos 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your Sweet Comments ! I haven't used a lock on it. Just used a snap hook to keep my chooks, safe from predators. This frame is used as a chicken coop door and is still in excellent condition.

How about just use gusset plates?
@JyjusHomeVideos
@JyjusHomeVideos 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we can. But, they still need to be fastened with Screws, Rivets (or Welding which I am trying to avoid). Also the thickness of Gusset plate stands out from the thickness of the steel tubes. And finally, the economic factor (combining the costs of Gusset plates and fasteners)

@JyjusHomeVideos Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your time and support. I don't think you watched the whole video. The whole door is shown (not in one frame though) with each and every detail. I have an updated version of the same video in this channel and that ends with the whole door in one frame.

what if the wood rots?
@JyjusHomeVideos
@JyjusHomeVideos 3 жыл бұрын
That is an interesting question ! Thank you. If in case it rots, we will be able to replace it easily. But if you select a timber that is hard and rot resistant, it will last for ever. Alternatively, you can use sealants for keeping the timber, everlasting. In this case, the timber I used is a naturally hard timber which is rot resistant and is still standing after three long years of continued exposure to the Melbourne Weather, where we have extreme hot and cold temperatures. No signs of Rotting or Damage at all and I am sure it will last for another three or more years easily 👍👍

Or you could screw it with bolts and nuts. No insert.
@JyjusHomeVideos
@JyjusHomeVideos 4 жыл бұрын
If we use bolts and nuts without inserts, it will damage (deform) the tubes. Alternatively, we can have metal inserts and bolts can be screwed on to the threads made in that inserts. Thank you for your comments 🙏

For anything that does not require any strength . You can get away with this Otherwise the strength of those screws will snap with any 90 degree pressure when you least expect it, Weld it if you can, it's a 100 times stronger.

Thank you so much for your valuable feedback. True ! It is not a permanent joint. I used this frame in the video for my chicken coop door and it has survived two Melbourne winters and still standing as new 😃. Strength will depend on what type of screws we are using. This method is shown as an alternative to welding to make steel frames and welding.
