Yes just take it one step at a time. Sergers sew fast but you can go slow with it. They are loud and sound more complicated and like big machinery, but you will get used to it. Just read your manual and follow it like a recipe. You can do it!!!

Thanks, that is a great well described video. And who knew getting off the round could be so easy ! Wondering what the reason was to sew the sleeves in the round, instead of all in one line with the front and back panel. Thanks!!
@SewingandtheCity Жыл бұрын
Sewing sleeves in the round can offer better fit and range of motion. It's often a design choice, but sewing all in one line is also valid depending on the style. Keep sewing and experimenting! 💜

Good video I have been trying to learn the flat lock stitch but with no success. I am still confused about the threading but it doesn't go into it in detail. Any chance someone could clarify the step by step threading with tension suggestions. Thank You.
@SewingandtheCity8 ай бұрын
For the flatlock stitch, you just need your regular 3 thread overlock stitch threaded as normal. The only tension change you make is to remove all tension from your needle, as in set it to 0. Then you're ready to flatlock ❤️
@annecrawford69578 ай бұрын
@@SewingandtheCity Thank you Thank you I finely managed to master it my problem was not just knowing how to thread properly but I was engaging the Spreader tool and that was incorrect, Wish I knew when to engage that tool and what it's purpose is. Thanks again for your quick response and patience. Anne

I'm serging up my first knit project and it's going smoothly thanks to your helpful video. What is that little ruler on your machine called? I'm searching it online and couldn't find anything like it
@SewingandtheCity3 ай бұрын
Oh I'm so happy to hear!! The little ruler actually came with my machine. You might be able to Google your machine and add "ruler" or "seam gauge" and see if something comes up. If not, a piece of masking tape carefully placed could work in a pinch 🙂

Wow! Thank you! I never knew my serger could do flatlock seams. I'm already thinking about the tops I have that I can run home and shorten after work. Does this work if you don't disengage the cutter?

Great video! And I'm really thankful I found you! Have loved the patterns I've purchased and am looking forward to making the tshirt. Quick question... do I need to use a jersey needle or knit needle on the overlocker? I know I change it on the regular sewing maching. Thanks for your insight. 🙂
@SewingandtheCity13 күн бұрын
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the patterns. For the overlocker, you’ll still want to use a ballpoint or stretch needle, just like on your regular sewing machine. It helps prevent snags and ensures smoother stitching on knit fabrics. Happy sewing! 😊

Hi, I just bought a serger and I’m not sure if I need to secure the seams end with something? I’m worried the seam will get unravel and messy if I don’t do the reserve stitches just like regular sewing machine?
@SewingandtheCity8 ай бұрын
Congrats on your serger! If your seam is going to intersect with another, you don't need to worry about securing them, serger stitches, like the 3 or 4 thread overlocks are pretty strong! If you don't hem or intersect a seam, you can use fray check which is almost like a glue, or you can make extra long thread tails at the end of your seam and use a hand sewing needle and bury your thread tails.
