This is amazing! Super easy and it really works! :D Thank you very much!!! I had an old HDMI to VGA adapater rolling around. Wanted to use it to connect my PS4 to a projector and it didn't work. Followed this tutorial, soldering the red wire of an old USB cable to pin 18 and the black one to "GND" pin. Tried it again on the PS4-Projector and works like a charm!

Shiiiit I was going crazy coz I just bought my ps4 and I have just sold my tv coz I will get my self a new one but I wanted to try it on my computer display which has VGA only and I had the same adapter that you had. ZouZou Khazma i am not sure, but i can CONFIRM that this method works 💯 percent and it’s-worth trying you won’t loose much but be carful when soldering the pins cause u don’t want to solder to of them together and may damage Hdmi output

I can confirm this works. Add 5v to non-powered(active) hdmi to vga adapter and PS4 will work (Because PS4 low power output hdmi port). I have a questions: Did you fully de-solder, or did you just barely melt the solder pad and let the wire stick into the melted solder and harden?

Ok, thats what I figured looking at the solder blobs. I accidently pulled out the pin 18 and ground wire from my adapter I have and now need to buy a soldering iron.

My hdmi to vga has a single resistor, 3 caps, central controller, and an unused Diode, capasitor and an audio and power jack. Looks like it is a PCB That can be both ways depending on what is soldered on. Not as intricate as the one you have.

En mi caso el HDMI venía de la salida de un decodificador de video cable digital y no tenía la corriente necesaria. Funciona perfecto, tenía duda en cuanto a los pines ya que el 18 y el 8 no estaban marcados y el circuito difería del que sale en el video. Para no errarle vi que hay un integrado AMS1117, es un regulador de voltaje, conecté la alimentación externa directamente a su entrada. Me solucionó el problema

You were doing pretty good before the tape. Just tie a knot in your power cable just inside your enclosure like most manufacturers do and it can never be pulled out without needing any tape.

I think just finding a ground is enough because you can find 5 volt with multimeter

Just cut off the green and white wires. Those are data wires so you don't need them.

Hi, good video! I've a problem with a HDMI-VGA converter (with integrated 5v). Whe I use it with my PS4 I notice that left channel is reversed with right and right is reversed with ground.. So when I pull off gently the male jack I have the right sound! Can I mod the converter? Thanks

GRIGORHS you need to have a adapter with a 3,5 mm sound plug in it otherwise you won't have sound. or you need to plug in you headphones to your controller.

I can play perfectly to the 360 at 720p, that its the maximum res supported, but after make active the converter only one time i can make fully visible the PS4 on the monitor but dont remember the settings i put on that moment.

If ur using it for ps4 you can just use a aux cable and connect it to the controller aux port or put USB speakers on your ps4

Argo i soldered a usb cable to 2 pins of the adapter so it has 5v extra power. if you plug that usb cable in your playstation it will work just fine

For the ps4 it needs power input. But you can buy a vga adapter with the power supply, no need to mod.

It can get it a bit warm but you should be able to touch it without a problem. Otherwise you may have to check the wires. maybe you soldered the 5v + wire to 2 joints at the same time. Mine gets a little warm too though.
