I love how you have updated and improved an old favorite. Just the other day I saw a homemade neckroll on the back of my 89 year old dad's recliner that I had whipped together for him several years back. It's filling is rice. I think he would appreciate this new take on fabric and filling. And especially the eye mask! Thanks so much for the project. Going shopping today!

These would make great gifts for care packages! I know as a chronically ill person, I appreciate these types of items. I especially like your idea of adding the pellets to the mask. I hadnt considered doing that before. I bet it would be extra soothing for migraines. I'm going to have to test it out. Thanks for the tutorial! Awesome as usual

For the sleep mask, I top stitched before filling except for a little before and after the opening to fill. It was such a small area that I had no trouble shifting all the poly pellets to the finished end to close and top stitch the rest. I have not made the neck roll yet but the sleep mask went so well that I will top stitch it before filling as well. Thank you for such great instruction. I love all of your tutorials.

I love this, the 2 for 1 deal thing! I use wheat, rice and also flax seed as filler. Wheat is good for moist heat, rice dry heat and flax dry cold and dry warm. The flax is more smooth, just don't get it wet it will get slimy. (I can't afford the poly pellets, tho I desperately want to try your weighed blanket) How I wish I could afford this fabric, its absolutely gorgeous! Thank you so much for your tutorials. It never fails, I always laugh! Also, this young man I met at a thrift store was looking into learning to sew last week, and I pointed him here. Hopefully, he will look you up. Perfect teacher. And lots of fun!

Yes, I have to make these! I think they would be great to use on the long road trips my husband and I love to take. I like to take naps in the car and the Eye Pillow would be great to keep the sun out of my eyes. The Neckroll will help keep my neck from tensing up. I'll use that with my pillow. And Rob, here are a couple of tips for you, and everyone else too..... A single Chopstick is what I use to help turn a tight project and they are also great at pushing those corners out for crisp points. And use one of those Wonder Clips to keep those little Beads in the bag until you're ready to use them! A Clothespin also works well for that.

Just a suggestion, Rob, I would top stitch all but the opening before adding the pellets, then finish after it is filled. I made a weighted blanket, so I know how hard it is to avoid the pellets when sewing. Thanks for another great tutorial.

I've made a weighted blanket and I would like to suggest pinning the opening close to the beads when sewing the closing up. It keeps those beads from sneaking under the sewing needle. For me, this worked well. Nice idea, thanks for the lesson about rayon!

Thank you , I've been making these items for oncology patients that sit all day with Iv's, and Kidney dialysis IV patients, post op surgery patients, and stroke patients- Just drop them off at your local healthcare facility, Children love them as well for IV sites and tummy, knee boo boos, ....they are appreciated almost anywhere! I have been using rice and lavender flower buds and know that the fragrance will dissipate after awhile. If you make an inner and outer bag, you can message some therapeutic grade essential oil on the palms of your hands and message into the inner pillow, leaving the outer case to be washed. We can do this!!! Ill try some of the beads as well...Your the best Rob!!!

Very neat indeed. My daughter bought 25 lbs of pellets on Ebay and I had to do 2 weighted blankets for her 2 boys.... WOW, so much work for my ole bones.... LOL, Love to watch some Rob Appell, Man Sewing

Love the idea! Couldn't you top stitch around the roll and eye mask, leaving the opening, before filling? Then all you'd have left to top stich would be the opening.

You certainly could!

To make the top stitching around the eye mask less fiddly you could do this step prior to filling with pellets and then simply topstitch the 1inch gap after its filled. They do look fabulous.

When useing slippery fabrics I use a roller foot, or a lapel stick to prevent slipping and sliding. Roxanne glue basting works great also. Could even use basting heat and bond.

Hi fun video thanks just a question you can use those poli beads in the microwave and freezer? I understand maybe the freezer but won't they melt in the microwave? I can't wait to try the face mask thanks

My church group has been making weighted blankets with the poly pellets for a foster care organization for traumatized children. They have asked us if we can make weighted animal neck pillows for these children. Could you come up with a tutorial/pattern?

Next time you can sew that outside edge before you fill it. Then all you have to sew is the little opening where you turned & filled it.

Although a wonderful idea, cuddle fabric does not belong in the microwave. Cotton fabric is really the only fabric that is "safe" for heating in the microwave, if the neck roll was to be used for heat therapy. So one could use this pattern and this tutorial and substitute the fabric with only cotton and sew away!

I thought you could not use poly thread if you were going to microwave the end product??
@Kathy-rt7sf6 жыл бұрын
Can you microwave cuddle fabric? I was under the impression it was synthetic... Also, Fairfield, the makers of Poly-Pellets advises the following on their website: "QUESTION : CAN POLY-PELLETS BE HEATED IN THE MICROWAVE? Poly-Pellets do not hold heat so we do not recommend warming them in the microwave." So if plastics, polyester and other synthetics are not recommended for the microwave, why are you suggesting these materials in a tutorial and telling people they can freeze or microwave it?
