This is a tutorial showing you how to make an exotic Indian dagger called a Katar. It is a peculiar weapon that has a sheath that opens and closes. You just need foam board, two toothpicks, two rubber bands and some glue. I give you the template you can download, print and put together. Fun intermediate project.

Just a question about the Katar, so you end up making the katar, you will probably play a bit with it, your pals might play with it too, if you got kids, they will end up playing too, the toothpicks will not break with use? would it not be better to use nails and then cut the excess with some pliers? thank you.

A very nice weapon though this particular style of Katar was actually designed as a decorative piece for sale to European collectors. The actual weapon had only a single blade and was also a status symbol for wealthy lords who would have paintings of them killing tigers with these weapons to boast of their bravery. The tri-bladed design was though impractical as it would fail to open within an opponent and if used whilst all three blades are extended would force all of the weight onto the pin holding it together thus damaging the weapon.

Loving the vids Will. Do you think you could do a foam board ballistic knife like from Call of Duty whether or not you can get get it to fire is irrelevant to me but you could probably use some sort of rubber band mechanism. I'm sure you could do great work on all your other stuff.

It's not. Just make three passes with a sharp knife. One to cut the top paper layer, a second to cut the foam layer, and a third to finish it off. Simples!
