This project was inspired by the Rochester Cloak experiment created by Professor John Howell and graduate student Joseph Choi. Be sure to visit their page to learn more about the experiment:
www.rochester.edu/newscenter/w...
---------------------------------
This is a really simple yet amazing project. It uses 4 lenses to control light in such a way that it renders an object invisible. When the light enters the first lens, it flips the image upside down. The second lens sends the light straight into the 3rd lens. The 3rd lens focuses the light into a point about 3 inches past the lens. Since the light is focused into a point, any object placed around that point cannot be seen when looking through the lenses. The light is essentially bending around the object. Once the light hits the point just past the 3rd lens, it then flips back right side up. This allows the background image to pass through all of the lenses without warping or being seen as upside down.

I didn't know what to say, so heres a waffle recipe: 2 eggs2 cups all-purpose flour1 3/4 cups milk1/2 cup vegetable oil1 tablespoon white sugar4 teaspoons baking powder1/4 teaspoon salt1/2 teaspoon vanilla extractYou can keep the batter covered in the fridge for up to a week. Just be sure to whisk well before using again. You may also use whole wheat flour for this recipe.

It is magnifying the bottom half of the view "port." and that is what you see. Notice how the bottom half was never covered at all
@brusspup
@brusspup 9 жыл бұрын
Kris8530 Actually the bottom half is exactly like the top half. The center is the only area where the object will appear. So I tried not to pass the center. It was cool to use the laser though because the beam is so thin ..I could get it so close to the middle without it appearing through the lenses.
@mikosoft
@mikosoft 9 жыл бұрын
explanation is in the description. He doesn't xover bottom in the first half of the video but he does it in second. He never passes through center though because that's where the light rays are concentrated. If he would pass trough center he would cover the whole view in the lens.

It's a principle developed at the University of Rochester NY earlier this year. (search for "rochester cloak" ) The trick is to not cover the center of the Lens in the middle, because that's the focus point, where the light is "bend through". ;) But really cool that he build it himself, I would have loved to see the beam path of the laser through the lenses in the haze... :) Welll... just saw that it's all explained in the description. 0:D

0:48 The answer is in this scene with the knife. You see a 2 inch hole to look through thinking you see all through it. However, the combination of the 4 lenses creates a focal point similar to a magnifying glass would with the sun to light something on fire. The focal point is about 4 cm below the very center of the circle. Notice the knife never passes that point, because if it did, it would be seen.

I'm guessing a magnifying lens in front of the object and the last one the same lease turned around, so when you are behind the last one it looks normal, but in front of the last one it magnifies the center so it looks like nothing is there, which is why they never put any objects directly in the center, just slightly above and below the magnifying point

Hello. Could you please tell me which lenses you have used? They are clearly not the same as in the original publication (achromatic doublets with 200 and 75 mm focals, which give a very cumbersome system). I have to show this experiment soon, and given the price of the price of the doublets, it is better to buy the good ones ! Thanks

I dont know if this is right but I have a guess. He's using the other glasses to make the first glass ZOOM more and by that it zooms so much that you cant see the ruler through the first one. And when he puts something infront of the third glass(Not in the center of it) it wont be possible to see and then he puts his hand behind the fourth glass.
