Welcome back to the custom mob series! Having finished with custom spawning and attacks for your mob, you can now animate your mob! I will show you how to create animations for the death, hurt, and movement of your mob, but the concepts that I show can be used to animate any aspect of your mob. Combining it with the last video will also let you animate attacks.
I tried to explain the commands and concepts as thoroughly as possible, but if you need clarification or have other questions, feel free to ask me a question here. You can also join the discord server to get help or ideas from other data pack creators.

Something I forgot to mention is to add this command to the 20t function to clean up any armorstands of mobs that have despawned instead of dying: execute as @e[tag=!dead,type=armor_stand,tag=custom_mob1] at @s unless entity @e[type=silverfish,tag=custom_mob1,distance=0..1] run kill @s

btw in 1.16 (a don't know if before) there is a really nice way of doing the 20t function more eassily, basically create it, an inside it put: schedule function namespace:your_function 20 You have to run this function when reloading also, otherwise it wont start

Sometimes i just avoid schedule since it overrides itself but i guess it should work fine in that situation.

Would it be preferable to mix the two methods of animation, in terms of performance, quality and work time? To item switch between animated textures, based on your mobs current activity?

awesome video, it was really helpfull, and if you want to show the table of content on the video, you have to add 00:00 in the description with intro i think, and do - in between the time and the subject like: "00:00 - Intro"

If I want a small mob with a bigger hitbox, like I want a Mob with the properties of an chicken, but I want its hitbox to be a Bit bigger like that of a pig. I want like a duck and I am baseing it on a Chicken for the eggs. Would it be easier to spawn a NoAI pig on the chicken and constantly teleport with it and when it takes damages and it transfers the health data to the chicken. Or just periodically summon eggs?? (Also thanks for making these tutorials, you don't know how much each one of your videos help, not just me but so Many people)

I think it would be easier to periodically summon eggs. Check out my timer video if u dont know how to use the schedule command, but you could schedule a function which runs like every 2 minutes which has a 25% chance of spawning an egg at any given duck. (You could use a loot table for that)

Yes I will, but keep in mind there isnt a really good way that causes no lag at all, eventually too many blocks will cause lag, since an entity is needed for displaying the model, because normal blocks on their own dont have nbt data, and none can change model without overriding.

I'm having a problem with both my custom mob pack and yours- when a mob gets into water flowing too high, the armor stand will separate from the mob. I tried storing the mobs Y coord value into the armor stand but I can't for the life of me get it to work. any fix ideas?

Is there a way to make a head look at a player like a cow or a sheep when you get close to them? Or make them have legs that move when they walk normally instead of manually animating?

Not sure what you mean when you say doing it instead of manually animating it. If you mean procedurally generated animations I dont think you could do that, it would be annoying to recreate with data packs. You could just detect if they are moving and swap out the movement animation. I dont think default mobs have different moving animations anyways.

I will release one eventually, one of the issues is that there are so many ways to implement it so i would have to make a bunch of examples. And some of the ways that i am trying make jittery movement.

I know you can do villager but I'm like 99% sure you cant do piglin with plain commands you'd need to use some loot table thing for the piglin bartering

i know how to use the /give command, and know how to add enchants to the item in the /give command. BUT i have a question that has to do with custom player heads: Can i use the /give command to A) give me the head, and B) add enchants to the head?

for some reason, the motion tag stays at 0.0,0.0,0.0 while the mob is moving in a straight line for a while any idea why that is.

I think i explained some of the differences before showing the automatic one. The manual one needs more commands but is simpler model-wise, and you also have more precise control over each frame. The automatic one is a bit more optimized and animates without commands.

Question: I've senn some texturepacks in the past that were applying random textures for a mob, i.e. a zombie can have 5 different looks. Is it possible to utilize that so that we can detect which texture is being used in order to change this entity's properties? Like, I want to have a stronger version of a zombie and all I have to do to make it work is to detect it's appearance. I'm mostly asking since there are already some animations done in vanilla game and I just want to know if we can utilize them somehow.

If you are talking about the actual variations like husk, zombie, drowned, villager, baby, then yeah because those are nbt detectable, however I dont think there is a way to change any textures or models in the game(that doesnt straight up override) that doesnt use custom model data. And custom model data would still have to be displayed in a way where the animations wouldn’t transfer over. If you just want to change the effects but not the models then yeah you could just have a function running every 20 ticks that just gives effects of, for example, strength 2 to all husks, or jump boost to baby zombies.

Hmm, too bad but I expected it's not going to be that easy. Maybe I just replace strays then xd Also: how much harder would it be to use stacked mobs as one(I want to use guardian for it's ray attack but on top of a skeleton/zombie)? I know I can run health detection to even their hp when one takes dmg but I just want to know if there's something extra to be careful about before i start messing with it.

You should be able to do it. I have heard that mobs including armorstands pop off when underwater though for some reason.

I have 1 Question is it possible to have Zombies With another Texture (Not a 3d Model just the texture from a skin for example) without replacing the zombie? Just like custommodeldata?

Not without replacing it. Changing the look of stuff with resourcepacks as far as I know can only be done with a model or texture override, or custom model data.

this is cool, but im confused. Can you animate using keyframes like on blender, or does that just not work because it creates a problem downloading it into minecraft? Thank you and nice video.

Actually using blender? Minecraft resourcepack models aren’t actual 3D model files like .fbx or anything like that, they generate the model using .json data which is just a bunch of cubes.

@@TimberForge nah i was asking if i could import the generic model template into minecraft and if that would make a problem. I'm not using blender, which is more complicated, i was comparing the animation used in that. Like moving parts of the model to animate.

Oh. But then what did you mean when you said “downloading”. Download from where? Blockbench? Blockbench only allows keyframe animations for bedrock, which is useless unless you have access to the beta plugin called animated java which isnt officially released yet.

Oh I see, you meant the “Generic Model” option on blockbench instead of “Java Model”. Yeah you have to use the Java model unless you have access to the conversion plugin beta.

for some reason once i added the red tinted model and refeshed my resource pack it all became missing texture

Maybe you duplicated the original model and then changed the texture from blockbench without making new textures? That would mess up the textures. Check the pinned comment for common fixes on the discord.

I have the exact command for red hurt (I'm using a chicken) but when I hit it, it waits 10 ticks then turns red for 1 tick then stops.

You have to be more specific. Watch my troubleshooting video for details, but you need to be able to identify exactly which part breaks. And make sure ur java 1.13+.

Did you watch the custom model data video? Skip to the part where I am editing the carrot on a stick json file, I explain what to do if you want multiple models. If you did that already, make sure the custom model data numbers increase as you go down the list. Check The pinned comment on the blockbench video.

Yeah it pops off unless you use a guardian, so I guess the best way there is to use armor stand teleports instead.

I can't make my mobs work underwater. The armorstand just dismounts.

You may have to use a teleportation method instead and make it so all model armorstands teleport to the nearest custom mob that doesnt already have a model near it.

This does not use Minecraft mods, it uses datapacks. See my video on the homepage explaining the difference. You can use it with your friends without everyone having to install it. It mostly uses normal Minecraft commands and some Json. Mods use Java.
