darmstadtKrö367 well most burglars wont have that specific transponder on them. If they do they can open the door without setting off alarm. But thats why you have motion detector and cameras. And if your door is locked they’d have to break a window and most likely the transponder wont work against the glass break sensor due to the distance from the sensor. A system like this a more of a deterrent. Look at the stats a simple lawn sign saying you have home security is quite powerful

@@beek2930 that is something i can agree with a bit more. its just that your first sentence, 'smart people dont break the law' is arguably wrong since a lot of really smart people have broken the law and got away with it. i wouldnt use a lawn sign of the company of which you're using the security system, thats basically telling burglars what tools they have to use. and having a system that is bypassed in seconds still doesnt seem very secure, especially by something that blocks all signals, but i guess a deterrent is still better than nothing.

This is pretty awesome. Couple thoughts: 1) if you need to really re-shape the axe blade, using the wheel is a great place to start / finish, but people need to be careful not to get the head too hot or the temper can be affected. 2) The wheel gives you a very acute angle, and a concave angle can help the edge endure a bit longer, which can be accomplished with a strop after the wheel! 3) I would not sharpen a pocket knife on the wheel. I wouldn't want to remove that much material from a small EDC knife blade
@jimbusmaximus4624
@jimbusmaximus4624 2 жыл бұрын
This is all true. I stay away from the wheel unless I need to completely reshape an edge, and it's more work than a file will handle. Never use a bench grinder on a knife or thin blade. You'll likely remove too much metal and ruin any tempering it may have.

My friend, when you use a powered wheel for too long, you overheat your edge (you see it smoking after the sharpening) and it becomes softer. Any heat treat is null. We could go into the formation of martensite and austenite the change in density, the change in crystal structure, and the ability of the edge to maintain the geometry, but it's not the place. Please be careful with your edges, but if you like it and it works for you, I guess do it, but a little information never hurt anyone. Shaving at this point does no good if it goes dull even 20% sooner that's 2 less swings per ten. I'd say go back to stones, but that's just me.

Meh, I feel like the issue with the grinding wheels is that they eat away more material than needed. With hand sharpening imagine blades last longer since you only do as many strokes as you need to reorient the material. With a grinder it would be very easy to remove too much material and end up with a toothpick over time. It's just a thought, I am no expert and only sharpen anything on rare occasion, but I prefer my Paul Sellers method of sharpening, I use it for knives and axes.

It would probably be ok if you really need to use a grinder. IF you have a belt sander, you can get strops for it for cheap that would work much better for flat things like chisels. Usually have a coarse strop made of canvas and a fine strop made of leather. Maybe a 2000 grit sandpaper for touchups or tools that need a bit of bite.

There is never a need to sharpen any axe to a razor edge unless you are a professional logger felling trees with and axe or are in a lumberjack competition. In truth, a splitting axe should not be razor sharp. When splitting wood, you are guaranteed to miss your target at some time and a razor sharp axe will remove body parts. You need nothing more than a file to sharpen an axe. Now for sharpening a knife, you process has merit.

I hate the double wheels for longer blades, i'd say they are not good for machetes or swords, you try sharpening a 4 foot long sword on them and watch how the second wheel starts hitting your blade and messing your blade up, i have a couple of them. Single wheels are for longer blades, doubles are for small hand tools and knives.

Nice video, but just to let you know, you dont really want razor sharp for an axe.. if its super sharp it means the edge must be super thin, cutting hair is fine, but when you whack a big tree branch, that thing edge can bend over or chip away really quick making it duller sooner. It looks like you made a good job of it, but maybe just now as shallow an angle next time.

Very discouraging to me as all those shows are a joke. Thankfully that did not happen because the man had great values and respect for himself so he walked away from it. I don't know what happened to that man but it seems that along came a tractor and slowly that channel has now turned into an Amazon infomercial. Some how I do not believe it is satisfying to you but I hope it is at least making you money. Great respect and still drop in once in a while but sure wish you would return to your values.

Holding the right angle on one of these types of spinning sharpening devices DEFNITELY takes some skill (albeit your title claim.....). Many guys that are too inpatient with a stone are going to really mess up a good blade with something like this... I've been using a Smith's handheld sharpener with the long handle to touch up machete and axe blades for 5 years now, takes 2 minutes and does a decent job refinishing an edge, Anything beyond that, chips/dings, and using an angle grinder first and the Smith's sharpener has worked just fine and doesn't take long at all.... I've learned even more patience in my machining schooling and could hand grind these tools at this point, but there is not much need with a simple pull-through 2 stage sharpener. Now do I use or need to sharpen things nearly as often as you?? HIGHLY doubtful lol

Yes your method is fast but it also removes a lot of metal quickly.. maybe more metal than you instead because all it takes is touching the wheel for an instant too long.. Plus if it's a blade that has some sentimental value or you want it to hold an edge in the future I recommend against any sharpening method that will get a knife too hot to touch.. A whetstone or whet-wheel is the only way to avoid destroying the temper and hardness of your edge.. repeated sharpening on the grinding wheel and you will find that you need to walk over to the wheel every ten minutes whereas a proper sharpening with a whetstone with a quality axe can keep you chopping all day.. Literally makes metal malleable and soft if you overuse sharpeners like this.. I have ruined too many knives where I have no doubt in my mind that were absolutely ruined by the heat of sharpening wheel's... Some people don't care and a tool is just a hunk of metal but I have A number of knives that simply wont take an edge and the only common denominator was repeated sharpening's on a grinding wheel.. Perhaps someone else has a way that works for them and that's great but I prefer to use steel files sandpaper and whetstones to maintain my edges

I really like and appreciate most of your videos but have to agree with Modern Day drifter and many others - you should not be taking 13 minutes to show us how to do something in 90 seconds ;-)

What? I was watching this about sharpening the axe...then they started talking about something else? I thought there was something not right? But I don't recommend watching this because it turns into something about an alarm or something? I sent a message to KZbin.

I hate to see you plugging simplysafe most of those home security systems are a joke, all it takes to bypass one is an inexpensive radio that can transmit on that frequency and a google search for the frequency that company uses. simplysafe uses 433.92 try it set a two radio to that frequency key it and open your door come in close it and let the key go. That’s just one of the many many many easy ways to defeat one of these systems it really works well if there is a sign advertising what system frequency you need to google.

And this video is just one example of why I stopped following you and watching your videos. 90 seconds in and you haven't even shown the axe, so the title is a lie. You waste too much time with things that are way too drawn out on tools and equipment that is way too expensive.

I wouldn't say no skill required. You set that blade on the spinning wheel with the blade angled wrong and it's going to catch and either break or go flying and you are probably going to end up with a chunk of metal where you don't want a chunk of metal.

I think to impregnate the wheel with the oxide or whatever, is just take wheel off smear glue on it and roll it through the oxide, that's poured in to a newspaper crease, or well that's how I did it

I have one of those cold steel trail boss axes. I also have the Gfb small forest axe. And The Scandinavian. Point being the trail boss axe can compete with the high dollar axe sometimes I find myself going for the trail boss before I go for my top quality axe. Best axe for the price everybody needs one.
