While subpar musicians are celebrated and receive widespread attention, the truly talented ones struggle year after year. One of my favorite bands has been around for a decade now and yet they are still obscure outside of their own sub genre. They work day jobs and bust their asses so they can keep doing what they do. I was dog piled for saying Ice Spice was a terrible performer- people making excuses about how she “just came out” and “she’ll get better with time”. I absolutely blame the consumers and general public for this issue. Prior to social media there were agents and recruiters out on the ground searching for real talent. These were people in the music industry for numbers of years, with an understanding of entertainment, artist development, and real musicianship. Fast forward to now, where those middlemen have been cut out. Now the industry just has to pluck whoever has the most followers. Mediocrity is excused by Gen Z and yes imma call Gen Z out cause that’s who’s supporting most of these artist. Ice may get better with time, but why is it okay to have something be marketed to you that’s not had time to be developed?? I’m not spending my money on someone who’s a bad artist and performer. And that shouldn’t be acceptable to this generation. The bar is so low. I feel like we haven’t seen a real superstar come on the scene is so long people forgot what it meant to be entertained by a real talent. Corporations respond to the needs and desires of the consumers, so if people are eating this crap up, there’s no incentive to shift the product

What really gets me with this whole Latto vs Ice Spice thing is they will say Latto is boring and have no personality but Ice has a great personality? In my opinion when it comes to watching their interviews, or tiktoks, IG vids etc Latto seems like a really fun girl with a fun personality compared to Ice
@CamrynSuzanne7 ай бұрын

@@CamrynSuzanneThe only reason I don't FW Latto is because of colorist stuff she said, especially to someone who was supposed to be her friend. And her original name was ignorant AF. So, I don't trust her yet. Otherwise, I'd give her a chance.

@@LadyAstarionAncunin I've heard people say they stopped messing with Latto because of the colorist stuff. Fans are hard to come by these days so losing any amount of support can be damaging. My sister was a whole Cardi B fan, we couldn't even bring up Nicki in her house without being cussed out 😅 But when she found out what Cardi said regarding someone's dead child she stopped playing all of her music. Things like this matter to fans.

ice spice is one of the first people in a loong while to have a physically distinct image from other artists, like you can easily spot her out in a crowd of people because of her orange hair - she stands out, something alot of artists don’t do right now. HOWEVER her songs are absolute dog. Imagine if she had the full package? she’d be unstoppable.

this has honestly been on my mind for a while now. all ice spice songs sound the EXACT SAME, just a generic drill beat with some elementary grade ryhmes and an almost non-exisistent flow, she does not need to be beefing with people outside her talent bracket. i dont how she has fans but i guess a goofy haircut warrants icon status these days. and its crazy because i liked ice in the beginning, like her music wasn't that good but she seemed humble and like a vibe, but her recent actions have been really weird and she needs to be told that her music really isnt that good and most people see her as a joke or another viral meme/gag.

story as old as time: artists nowdays debut on tik tok and labels take them up to the top of the game immediately. While usually the path was: you have passion and show it: Beyonce was performing as a kid in a girl group in local competitions, Gaga was performing in night clubs, Taylor was performing in cafes all before getting discovered. Then came the developement deal with the label, which was meant to train you in all the aspects of being a pop star: singing, dancing, production of music, training on how to handle interviews etc… and ONLY AFTER ALL THOSE THINGS they had you debuting. And even then you’d debut and start as an opener for others stars before going on your own tours. Plus often the pop/rap stars that act all cocky are the ones who mostly lack something. Like you rarely see Beyoncé being cocky and bragging, same for Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry etc. They never had to tell you they were some of the great ones and always left their craft speak for them. And they are probably some of the last artists that actually care about their craft: the attention to detail, being that in the production, the vocals, the choice of instruments or beats, the storytelling, that’s what differentiates them. Like when you listen to someone who doesn’t care about the craft you can tell because at most you hear a very nice song, but when you listen to someone who actually cares you can feel that they want to deliver something more than a catchy/nice sounding song. You can feel and listen to their desire to express a part of themselves in the music and that’s because they spent years developing and working to get to where they are.

I feel like a lot of these artists, new and old can learn from Dua lipa. when you call them out on mediocrity or lacklustre..ness there’s always a bunch of excuses or insults. They don’t use criticism to actually do better. And I blame the fan base because they hype mediocrity instead of pushing their favourite artists to be greater.

This stuff why i ride so hard for Meg the Stallion who is fully funding her entire career right now herself. And she not afraid to support who she wants and call out who she feels needs to be called out. She also knows what she should and should not speak on in the public. This is why I listen to so many indie artists. I’d much rather support them over popular artists who produce trash and don’t put any effort into their live performances. Ice Spice is a cute girl but I don’t listen to any of her music and her stage presence is horrible. These things are important to me because my dream as a kid was to be a broadway performer, I sang in choirs from toddlerhood to the end of high school. A lot of these new popular artists don’t have any respect for the craft and it shows.

One artist I can think of that checks out these boxes is Bruno Mars. ✅Good visuals (this is subjective though, not like pretty boy perfect but not bad looking either) ✅Dance moves (or at least, the groove/flow needed to dance) ✅ Powerful vocals (have you heard him live? I did and it's out of this world, dudes jumping dancing and singing and gives his all, while sounding amazing) ✅Stage presence ✅Charisma ✅Passion for his craft ✅Catchy songs Also, Lee Taemin from SHINee. He really checks out all of those boxes.
