@@coffiebreak2236That definitely happens as well. I guess that’s where the concept of the “industry plant” comes in. Some labels prefer these kinds of artist, they probably don’t write so they get to be in control of the music and the publishing, masters, be in the drivers seat, and when interest in the artist dies, they just rinse and repeat with someone else. It’s just business to the labels. They aren’t on a noble mission to gift music to the world. They just wanna make sure that next quarterly earnings report has a juicy number.

Megan is not a 1 = 1 because because Megan blew up in the first place because of her demonstrating her skills with a ton of freestyles. People know she got it. The only ones who think otherwise only listened to one or two songs. But even in those songs, her pen is clever and her mic sounds nice. They just dismiss her because she's attractive, unashamed, and dances as she does. Anyone whose truly followed her already knows what she can do. But I'm glad for 'Hiss' because it's made some people take suggestions and go back and discover her. She's diverse AF yet people lie and say she's not. She's shown she can rap and freestyle on any beat and has bar after bar after bar.

While subpar musicians are celebrated and receive widespread attention, the truly talented ones struggle year after year. lil nas x, pink pantheress, doja cat, grimes and even sza and so many others are artists who are still able to make “fun and unserious” music but can turn around in the same second and make music of value. making just fun music will get you far as an internet celebrity but won’t get you far in hollywood and longevity. many artists we listen to all have a fun and silly song but that’s not all they have to offer. doja went viral for the most unserious song moo but look at how she’s come musically. as an artist you need to grow by yourself, for yourself and with your fans as well. like beyoncé her music has grown with her growing. growth is one of the most important things as an artist

I was dog piled for saying Ice Spice was a terrible performer- people making excuses about how she “just came out” and “she’ll get better with time”. I absolutely blame the consumers and general public for this issue. Prior to social media there were agents and recruiters out on the ground searching for real talent. These were people in the music industry for numbers of years, with an understanding of entertainment, artist development, and real musicianship. Fast forward to now, where those middlemen have been cut out. Now the industry just has to pluck whoever has the most followers. Mediocrity is excused by Gen Z and yes imma call Gen Z out cause that’s who’s supporting most of these artist. Ice may get better with time, but why is it okay to have something be marketed to you that’s not had time to be developed?? I’m not spending my money on someone who’s a bad artist and performer. And that shouldn’t be acceptable to this generation. The bar is so low. I feel like we haven’t seen a real superstar come on the scene is so long people forgot what it meant to be entertained by a real talent. Corporations respond to the needs and desires of the consumers, so if people are eating this crap up, there’s no incentive to shift the product
@CamrynSuzanne

Yeppp, i blame myself bc i was someone unnecessarily defending the mediocrity 🤦🏾‍♀️ and that contributed to her getting as big as she is. Foresure, we look at the labels and say the industry where half the time they are just giving us what we “want” and what we’re responding to

You nailed it. Before Doja Cat became constantly embarrassing online I thought she was gonna be a superstar. She produced genuinely creative songs, good enough singing, and good dancing. story as old as time: artists nowdays debut on tik tok and labels take them up to the top of the game immediately. While usually the path was: you have passion and show it: Beyonce was performing as a kid in a girl group in local competitions, Gaga was performing in night clubs, Taylor was performing in cafes all before getting discovered. Then came the developement deal with the label, which was meant to train you in all the aspects of being a pop star: singing, dancing, production of music, training on how to handle interviews etc… and ONLY AFTER ALL THOSE THINGS they had you debuting. And even then you’d debut and start as an opener for others stars before going on your own tours. Plus often the pop/rap stars that act all cocky are the ones who mostly lack something. Like you rarely see Beyoncé being cocky and bragging, same for Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry etc. They never had to tell you they were some of the great ones and always left their craft speak for them. And they are probably some of the last artists that actually care about their craft: the attention to detail, being that in the production, the vocals, the choice of instruments or beats, the storytelling, that’s what differentiates them. Like when you listen to someone who doesn’t care about the craft you can tell because at most you hear a very nice song, but when you listen to someone who actually cares you can feel that they want to deliver something more than a catchy/nice sounding song. You can feel and listen to their desire to express a part of themselves in the music and that’s because they spent years developing and working to get to where they are.

I thought there was potential too at first, but by now…there’s literally very little effort put into her music, lyrics, performances and videos…someone who cared would be improving by now

It kinda feels like artists are forgetting that they dont deserve fame just for existing, artists get famous because people like what theyre making and performing but it is a job and you gotta put in work to do it

Exactly! It’s a job at the end of the day. Now, everyone can’t love everything and I get that but if you’re getting an overwhelming amount of comments of the same thing…it’s not clicking

Pretty girl music artists only have a 2-3 year career lifespan. That’s about the time it takes a female to grow out of wanting to go clubbing. And Spotify monthly listeners don’t really matter anymore now that we’re seeing artists with 30 million monthly listeners cancelling tours because they can’t sell tickets. I was over Ice Spice after her SNL performances.

Same, I’ll still listen to her here and there but there isn’t much all any depth of her art. Which is why I also stopped listening to pretty girl music bc it’s boring

100% this! i listen to ice spice and will admit that i liked think you the s***😂 however it will be a cold day in hell before i ever pay to see this girl live. her music is for bumping in the car on the way to the club. she is eternally giving us nothing

Cardi is another person who I think is in the Dua Lipa category. If you listen to Bodak Yellow vs Up or Bongos, there is major improvement and she has just levelled up project after project and takes her work seriously. A lot of people hate on her because they think she’s too this or too that, but she is good at what she does and she clearly puts a lot of effort into putting out quality work.

Yes! I feel like we’ve seen cardi grow over time and in my opinion she always had this glimmer of it factor. She just improved on her craft, stage presence on 10. Catchy fun songs and she seems to care about herself as an artist

Bongos wasn’t a good song to me and she still has ghost writers the only improvements cardi made were the numerous plastic surgery she gets she’s always been a good performer though

i liked dua when she first started releasing music, but how dramatic her improvement was during the release of future nostalgia made me a massive fan of her, it's honestly inspiring to see how she took such brutal criticism, though funny, and levelled up her entire artistry
