I saw a display of Bizen ware in Perth several years ago, courtesy of the Japanese Embassy i believe. It was full of character and presence. Some was quite rustic and some was exquisitely refined and elegant. It was the most memorable ceramic exhibition i have ever seen.

Thank you for your comment. Bizen ware is a type of pottery that represents Japan. I think that it is a pottery that is simple but has individuality and the competence of the artist is questioned. If you are a pottery artist, I think it would be interesting to use it as a reference. Thank you for watching my video.
Great video. I want to try this although i cant get bizen clay here. Im going to use my usual ree clay. Any chance you can talk about hidasuki?
@kiraku-pottery Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Even if the clay is not Bizen clay, I think it will be interesting because there will be some changes. Iron-rich clay is best. There are no plans for HIDASUKI right now.

Thank you so much for your amazing videos. In India , we will not get these fire boxes. I will appreciate if you can narrate the process of making the fire box.As you mentioned in one of your replies that it is made of fire clay. Do you bisque fire it and is it glaze fired too ? I can see different inside and outside colours.
@kiraku-pottery Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. You can make your own firebox. Please see the production video below. ▽ kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWLWqKB5mstro80 I used fire-resistant clay, but if you don't have one, you can use regular clay. The only difference in the color of the inside is that the color has changed during use. Initially, the outside and inside are the same color. It is unglazed and made unglazed. please refer.

Awesome video! I am thinking to try this by making a porcelain firebox. Is there any hole inside for air or fumes to escape? I assume it might built up pressure.
@kiraku-pottery2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. There are no holes for gas to escape inside. I think that if you make a hole, the effect of charcoal will not come out much. I think the porcelain surface changes.

I really enjoy your videos-- especially this one because I am also using bizen clay. I also REALLY appreciate your translations into English-- they help me a lot. (However, I need to point out, please use the word "bottom" of the pot or cup, rather than "back side" in your translations... ("backside" usually means お尻!)). Thank you, as always, from Iwate!

Thank you for your comments. I am happy that you enjoy the video. Thank you for the video translation. I'm using google translation, so I think there are some strange translations, but I hope the meaning is conveyed. In Japanese, "bottom" means the bottom, mainly the inside of the vessel. Does bottom mean the back side in English? (I understand the meaning that the back side is the buttocks ~ lol)
@mikeu53802 жыл бұрын
@@kiraku-pottery Well, you are right-- "the bottom of the pot" could be EITHER the inside (見込み?) or the outside (高台). But we can tell the meaning by watching you. Also, instead of "hill," we can say "shoulder" or "hip" (腰). A good bilingual text is "The Japanese Pottery Handbook," by Penny Simpson. Thank you again!
