What method do you use to ensure the polarity of the magnets is correct when putting them in?

Good question! I made a large stack of magnets and painted the first one red. I made sure the magnet with the red paint was always facing me, while gluing the bottom magnet in place. For the left side I painted the other side blue, and made sure it was always facing me. I hope this helps.

Made some for my self in the last weeks, I think i will modify them with the wood pattern on the other side. Thats a really great idea! :D But I think I want the squares in the wood too, like on the stone side for measuring ingame. Maybe I find a way to do that properly. ^^

Tried using this method over ten years ago and learned that tiles take up too much space if you are traveling to a game / convention. Now, l use wooden blocks to make walls & fold-out map for floor.

What kind of foam are you using? This weekend I bought 1/2" posterboard (foam inside, some kind of cardboard outside) from Michaels to try, and I am able to scuff it up with an xacto knife but yours looks like it forms grooves from a pencil much more easily. I also saw styrofoam sheets at the store but they looked like they might show that 'made of many little spheres' texture that styrofoam sometimes has. Do you have any tips for finding the right foam? Thanks!

It's XPS foam or insulation foam. I think you can do it with the posterboard if you peel of the cardboard on one side. I've never tried it though. Let me know if it worked!

I found that the posterboard wants to tear rather than peel, but it works ok to leave it on and use a sharp knife for carving the main grooves (two cuts in a V to make a little channel) and a metal mechanical pencil tip for the wood grain. I like the look of yours a bit better though so I think XPS must be the way to go. I will try it next time, thanks again!

So...u need a hot wire cutter? and availability to 1/2 inch thick foam core? Easy is a relative term.

You can do almost all cutting with a normal hobby knife. The foam sheets are necessary though :)

Do you think this could work with 12 mm width EVA foam? I don't have access to thicker material nor XPS :c Also, can you "flip" one size and still connect? Like, can you connect wood+dungeon tile next to each other? asking because if you flip the tiles the polarity will get all mixed up

Sure, 12mm is not a problem. Maybe it will be a bit more fragile. The wood can't be connected with the dungeon tiles right now. Would be an interesting project though!

Not to accuse you of taking this and claiming it as your own but this looks very similar to the RP Archive's method. I'd give you the benefit of the doubt if it wasn't more or less step for step accurate, but hey, maybe I'm wrong. If I'm right though, credit where it's due and all and if I'm wrong then well, great method, keep up the good work!
