Thanks to all those people who suggested making squishies using fish bait! I was amazed to discover that making fish lures is such a popular hobby, and the material used for that is perfect for squishy crafting. Plastisol is actually a very broad description for plastic suspended in liquid that cures (hardens) at specific temperatures. The soft plastisol used in this video behaves extremely similar to silicone. It feels significantly different to Hitohada Gel because the final piece doesn't come out sticky. Melting Xcubes is definitely a tricky task, and NOT suitable for children. You need to wear hand and arm protection at all times, and ideally safety glasses and a face mask as well. If anything, the mask will protect you from the smell of molten plastic which is (predictably) pretty awful.
I was pretty anxious doing this DIY for the first time, however it becomes easier after I found the correct heating method (1 min at 360W followed by several 30sec bursts). It's cheaper and more foolproof than Hitohada Gel but requires a lot of safety precautions. I like the fact that it's reusable so you can use up all the scraps or even remelt existing squishies. Chelsea DIY made a shrimp squishy using Liquid Plastic which is "unfused" Plastisol (thanks for tagging me in the video text :)). Fused Plastisol simply means it doesn't change consistency several times when heated.

my guess as to why there are no specific Microwave settings would be because It was a kit from america and we don't have heat settings on most microwaves here. Cooking times vary based on wattage of the microwave as they do not have a wattage selection. Great video! keep up the good work. =]

Super cuuute! I love the blue one and it's sparkly glitter spots! Though, one small question. Don't whale sharks have a fin that moves side to side like a sharks? Rather than up and down like a dolphine or whale? I just noticed this while you were sculpting, and it makes the silver one look like a little beluga whale.

Mixing silicone caulk with corn flour makes a silicone dough/putty type of stuff that you can mould like play dough and it sets in a few hours in the shape you made... heaps of videos out there on it but definitely could be a cool squishy recipe (I make these all the time as a cheap alternative to silicone moulds that cost a lot)

Yeah, the homemade silicone putty is honestly the best thing out there! Silicone caulk (the cheap kind that creates acetic acid when it cures) and corn flour/corn starch/baby powder. Mix until smooth and then use it. Only thing is that is smells awful anyhow.

Whatever you do, DO NOT drop/break that Pyrex you've got there! The GOOD Pyrex, that's made properly and is getting harder to find, is all capitals (PYREX). They do not make these in the US anymore! The newer ones are not as sturdy/durable, and the name is in all lowercase (pyrex). They aren't anywhere near as good as the original!

It's because it's not real borosilicate glass, which is the strongest variety of kitchen glass (or was, at this point) and it's very difficult to make correctly.
