MORE TIPS FOR COOKING AND USING COLD PORCELAIN CLAY: You shouldn't mix the ingredients while the stove is on. Mix it all together first until it has no lumps, then it's ready to cook. Doing this will prevent too much lumps on your clay and you'll have a very smooth cold porcelain clay. Cold porcelain clay loves plastic and hate metals. It sticks to metals easily and it doesn't stick to plastic Clear glue is not recommended. Shelwood white glue brand is the glue you would really want besides Elmer's glue. It's thicker and will make your creations more durable than it is. For drying your piece you should consider using silk screen so that the bottom part can also dry. It also prevents unintentional holes at the bottom and deforming of thin pieces. Cold porcelain clay tends to dry darker. If you want to make sure that you will get the color you want after it's dried, you can make a tiny flatted clay and let it dry for 15mins to see how the color will turn out when dried. Making cold porcelain clay is really trial and error but when you get a hold of it, it is really really worth it! It's durable and inexpensive!

I'm looking for a recipe for translucent clay. The cold parcels clay I make isn't as translucent as the clay I get in craft kits. Any suggestions? I've used white and clear glue with cornstarch, some baby oil, and some vinegar.
@dingus-dingus8 ай бұрын
The starch can be activated in advance by heating it in a pan until .. ready. Maybe five minutes on full heat, mixing continuously. Browns and burns if you don't pay attention. After done, it can be stored for later use. You have now created a type of modified starch called Dextrin. This modified starch thickens with water, but doesn't need heat. Maybe this way you can get rid of the need to heat the diy clay mixtures and get a more consistent result?

Just thought I'd leave a small review about how making cold porcelain in the microwave went just incase anyone is curious: Since I didn't have a lot of ingredients I decided to make half the recipe: 1/2 cup elmers school glue(white), 1/2 argo cornstarch, 1 tsp lemon juice, and 1 tsp Johnson's baby oil. Personally I have a 1200w microwave and so I mixed all the ingredients in a plastic container, making sure to get rid of all clumps and making it as smooth as possible, before putting the mixture in the microwave for 15 seconds. I repeated this process about 4 times, each time I would try to stir thoroughly to get a smooth consistency. After the 4th time I was suprised to see that it had reached less of a cottage cheese state and more of a very thick, smooth cream. At this state I was wary of over cooking the cold porcelain and so I began to place it for 5-10 seconds at a time. I had never even touched cold porcelain, let alone made it, but I was suprised that I was able to get the consistency the first try. It was rather sticky and so I did have to add some more cornstarch. But in the end the smooth texture is unlike any air dry clay I've felt before and I completely recommended it. (I will edit this comment once I get the result from the drying process and maybe painting in a few weeks when I get a chance to make the project I intend to make. If you have any questions please ask away,, and hopefully this was helpful to atleast someone.) Edit: The air-drying process went well! No cracks, it solidified quite nicely and it is quite light weight (though not as much as polymer clay)

I remember I was taught how to make an air dry clay that looked like cold porcelain when I was around 7. I can't remember the exact measurements (that was over 15 years ago lol), but it was regular white glue (not sure if it was PVA or not... Just the regular glue kids use at school), cornstarch and shredded soap (just running a regular soap bar through the cheese grater). I'd say it's about 1 cup of each of those, add everything to a bowl and mix everything with your hands. I still have some of the pieces I modeled with this clay laying around my parent's house, they're still intact and they still smell like soap. (Not that it matters, but if my writing is weird it's because English is not my first language)

Tips for making cold porcelain! (If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.) 1. DON'T use clear glue or any type of glue that is liquidy. This is because liquidy glue has more water in it causing it to crack more as it dries. I recommend using thick glue instead. 2. If you're going to knead the clay (after cooking it), use lotion. Do not use water or cornstarch because this will cause the clay to crack as it dries. Only add in cornstarch if you're going to work and the clay's too soft. Similar to water, only add water when you're working. 3. (Not really a tip, more like a The More You Know) There are clay artists who use cold porcelain to make anime figures! Traditionally, clay artists (Lovely4u, ALLO ALLO CLAY, Clay Snipper) use super light clay (last I checked, this is what the slime community call "Polymer Clay" which is stupidly misleading, in my opinion). This type of clay dries with a foamy texture. But some clay artists (Clay Bum, Little Figures, and Clay Commission on IG) switched to cold porcelain because it's firmer.
@aleahlrb3 жыл бұрын
@Josephine Harwood I don't have much experience with baking soda clay since most clay stuff I make have a lot of details. The first time I tried making the clay, I didn't like it because it easily broke off from itself and was difficult to do details so I haven't made more since. From prior experience of experimenting with making homemade clay, it's usually much better or preferred if you use cornstarch for recipes, or if the recipe requires cornstarch, stay with it. It's makes a firmer clay. There are other videos that I've seen that also show them using potato starch/potato flour (not sure if these are the same like how cornstarch and cornflour are the same thing), so if you have access to that, maybe try it instead?

What is "Thick glue" like brands of it?
@aleahlrb2 жыл бұрын
@@rubythorstenson4269 A good example would be Elmer's Glue All. If you compare it to Elmer's School Glue, it's comparably thicker. And if that's unavailable to you, you can always go to your local hardware store and ask if they have any white wood glue. I often use white wood glue since they make the perfect non-cracking cold porcelain for me.

I literally just finished my first batch of cold porcelain. I am completely new to this sort of stuff, so I made a quarter batch to start with, as I didn’t want to waste any ingredients. I haven’t actually moulded anything yet, but it seems like it came out pretty much the same as in the video! It is actually currently right by me in some cling film right now... Here are some things I found when I made the clay: I made it in the microwave, as I didn’t really want all the hassle of doing it in a pan etc. I did 15 second intervals, like it says in the description box. The first 2 intervals, nothing really happened, and the consistency was about the same. But, on the 3rd interval, it hardened super quickly and became very thick. My clay stuck to the bowl quite a bit, though I was able to scrap most of it off. It didn’t pull away from the sides of the bowl like Joanna said it should, maybe I didn’t use a non stick bowl or I didn’t do it long enough? I don’t really know... Another thing to note is that it smells pretty bad... I felt and was nearly sick smelling the clay... it was just a very unpleasant smell! Anyway, I’m just about to mould something, I’ll edit this comment once I have finished!

I made flat Christmas ornaments with my newborn daughters handprint of the baking soda clay over 6 years ago. I baked them in the oven, just like fimo clay and they are still absolutely white and a bit shimmery from the baking soda. It is such a good clay for that purpose

I have used the cold porcelain recipe for years for my craft business. I can keep for up to 6 months in an airtight bag, inside and airtight container. Happy crafting!

These clays are so much fun and very amazing to make! Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait for your next diy tutorial of anything you make. I love the sock plush tutorials also. Stay safe during this very difficult time.
this is sooo cute and thoughtful of you for making it and showing it to us.
