Sturmpanzer 2 has remained untouched and its because it has 8.5kg of explosive mass to its shell. The kv2 has 5kg with its HE shell. They were all adjusted based of explosive mass.

@Will Nicholson Can't say for when previous HE nerfs happened (i.e HE vs gun barrel reduced by around 50% or more because gaijin didn't like it being effective at disabling tanks) but I can definitely say HE took a big nerf after 1.89 because Gaijin had to make sure the Roland and other SAMs couldn't kill MBTs with their large TNT warheads. Strangely enough though, they were completely fine with the 2S6 Tunguska with 8 ready to fire missiles one shotting MBTs for the entirety of 1.87. I feel like calling out Russian bias is outdated but you can't go without noticing shit like this.

Controls Malfunction Challenge: Go the controls and switch the movement of the tank keys(WASD) with the aiming controls(mouse) so basically you'll move the tank with your mouse(RMB=Forwards, LMB=Backwards) and turn the turret/aim with the WASD keys(W/S for vertical movement, A/D for horizontal movement) with a variety of tanks( normal tanks, SPGs, AA, etc). Attempt #3.

I think properly modeled HE would be kind of op for some tanks. I saw a picture once of a panther that had been hit be an HE shell from a 105mm Sherman. The entire upper plate was pushed in, it looked like it had been hit by some sort of 5 foot diameter solid shot round. I have a feeling it would screw up balancing in more ways than one.

high explosive needs a mechanic for concussive blasts from HE shell also well as breaching, which did happen with large caliber HE, war thunder just thinks when HE explodes outside the tank it just splashes off the tank and does no damage

The HE got really nerfed when the russian players realised the 125mm HE works better than APFSDS and they used it so they have a chance against the americans and germans, but now that HE is unusable they get curbstomped at high tier. Not that devs care that its absolutly unfair against some contries that actually deserve a buff, but but meh german suffers...

I do great with HE; you just have to know where to shoot now. Before, you could shoot anywhere. Now, you need to make strange shots that you don't make with other ammunition types. Aim for these spots and see if you do better. M4 Sherman: -Side Armour (100% kill) -Below the tank (100% kill) -Under the barrel (driver and radio gunner killed, but tank can still shoot) You don't have to be facing the tank's side to hit its side armour. Just shoot for the side plates when they angle their hull; your shot won't bounce and you will get the kill. KV1: -Below the barrel (will break through the top plate and potentially explode the fuel tanks) -Under the tank (100% kill) -Top plate (gun disable, not reliable because of angle) This one is tricky, but if you go into the KV-1 armour test and try it out, you will see that shooting to the lower left or lower right of the turret will destroy these things with HE T34: -Side Armour (100% kill) -Lower part of turret (100% kill) -Under the tank (100% kill) This is the easiest tank to kill with the KV2 once you understand where to shoot it. The side armour is a target that is almost always available, and is the most reliable. Panzer 4: -Hit the turret. Dead You can try these shots out for yourself in the armour tester in-game. They work. I only play the German version of the KV-2. I thought it was trash because I couldn't penetrate T34s or KV1s, but I trained myself how to better utilize HE shells, and now it's a beast.
