Drum corps at the absolute pinnacle of the activity. And in my opinion it took some bravery for the show designers to include (much less use as the opener) a popular Christian piece.

This drill and music still stands the test of time in 2024! Love everything about this opener, the best of what the Madison Scouts stand for.

Those 8 contra-basses really pulling their weight, loud and clean....love it!

I noticed that immediately. I’m a former contra player so I’m always listening for a strong low end brass sound.

Peter Grun yea every high school band did this AFTER Madison presented it..😑
@muybueno84536 жыл бұрын
Peter Grun still doesn't change the fact that since they did it, many schools have done it. Like I said. Lexington HS did The Planets in 1992 3 years before Cavies won with some of the same arrangements so does that make the Cavies lame? Just asking.

I remember this year. The soprano section (trumpets) were awesome. If they were combined with the '88 season Baritones, they would've been even more amazing. Madison is my favorite corps from the 70's 80's 90's. Looking forward to them finding their way again. Go Madison!!

I marched '88 and '89 Scouts. Of everything we did, our '88 opener was by far my favorite thing. Such a fun and interesting piece. I know I'm in the minority here, but I loved it heaps above Malaguena or Make His Praise Glorious (although those were pretty damn good too).
I miss that in today's summer marching bands. Now it's a wall of speakers.

Wonderful show in all areas, usually you would say how the hell did this get 7th place but 1989 is a monster year of good Corps!
@KiranSundarkdog974 жыл бұрын
Neil Palmer yeeeaahhh when you have 4-6 within 0.6 of each other, and 1-3 being as good as they were, that’ll kinda block you out of the top 6 lol. Madison may have been awesome in ‘89, but like you said, ‘89 was just a really good year.

Santa Clara was given a second shot at doing a near identical show as in ‘88. And they were rewarded for it. Phantom Regiment ripped off big time just like in ‘78
