I have a dress my mother made for me when I was 28- I just turned 58 on the day this video published. I had lost weight and she had just finished a tailoring class. We collaborated on every aspect. In the end it fit me perfectly. It was stunning. I wore it at least once a week to work for about a year. Then I got pregnant and my shape was never the same. It has so many memories tied to it from the construction of it that I could never let it go. It was beautifully made and finished. A true labor of love. If I gave it away, it would have to be altered in order for anyone else to wear it. I just can't do that to it. Not yet. After 30 years, it still looks like it did the day she made it.

One thing that helped me to pare down on clothing was to get rid of most things that require dry cleaning. Don't even want to think about how much money I spent on that every year. Now I make a conscious effort NOT to buy such clothing ever again.

Being comfortable is an important factor. I kept a lot of shirts that I loved and lived in for many years, wore them regularly, but I gained weight and they didn’t fit for many years. I binned them. I finally many years later lost weight and they fit, I expected to still love them….. but I’d put one on, and then change it to something else. I did that numerous times and kept hanging them back up. I realize now that what I found comfortable back then, is different than what I find comfortable now, specifically what fabrics and how they move. I still like how those shirts all look, looks and style wise I would still buy them, but I’m not wearing them because they’re no longer comfortable to me now. They need to go.

Very timely video for me! Going through a clothes declutter (bc of gaining weight ugh) I was thinking what if we started wearing some occasion clothes on an ordinary day, just for fun? Sort of we are special enough, so there is no need for a super special occasion, maybe a trip to the library could be a special occasion? 🤔 (I keep wearing comfy trash though😅)

My friend told me about a couple that was at a post office dressed to the nines and I always think of that whenever I think of fancy clothes. Sometimes you can just wear the fancy dress that you love even if there's not an actual fancy reason. ☺️

Happy Birthday to you🎂! This past Monday the 12th, was my 41st B-Day🎁. I don't know why but 40 was always my "scary age"😬 LOL... but when that day came, that fear of turning 40 didn't exist anymore! I felt like an awesome new chapter begun! Then this year I realized, It was leaving my 30's scared me. Since turning 40, I've realized, this is WAY better than my thirties! I realize how much more content I am & how much better I know myself & my self-worth! I wondered if others have this realization at this age.... or maybe I'm just late to the party LOL? Hope you have an amazing Birthday🤗💙!

1. Does it fit/comfort/Does it make you feel good? 2. How often do you wear it? 3. Do you skip over it in favour of something else? 4. How likely will I be wearing it? 5. Is it your style? What are your stylesets? 6. Will you be fixing it if it was damaged or rebuy it?

Great video thank you Laura! I got rid of all the clothes that made me feel matronly or clothes that had no shape such as oversized t-shirts or blouses. Also all oversized sweaters that made me look like a potatoe! I look best in more form fitting sweaters so I only kept those. Your 1950 style red dress suits you so much! I'm still in the process of figuring out my style but so far I like the business casual look and chic boho look.🌸🌺🌷🍀👒

Great idea: name your three to four styles! So much better than just one style. I’m going to try that! Other important clothing question in my opinion: is the piece black? Then ditch it, because it is not your colour.

90s are great and 1950s house wife! I saw your ModCloth box I got excited I always dream of buying things from there I really don't shop for clothing at all. Typically if I'm actually running out of clothes then I'll buy some items. But that's usually just black yoga pants and a black tank top these days I did get some t-shirts about 2 years ago. I love looking at those vintage style dresses on Amazon I have my eye on a few of them but I also know that I don't like wearing dresses I think if I could pair them with like either some leggings or some sort of a body shaper I would feel comfortable enough to wear them around my house like cozy shape wear shorts that suck my tummy in. I wish I could find some cute tennis shoes ( sneakers) about I could wear with a dress and still feel comfortable in because there's currently only one style of those that I like to I'm so picky!!! Comfort always trumps style for me. Always.

Really GOOD video for closet decluttering. I Love How you went into depth about styles and how we CAN have more than a cpl styles. Most just talk about the how many times you wore it's or if you love it. I too, love other styles that don't work for me, and it took a while to realize that even though I LOVED the top, it did NOT look right on me. I LOVE your pics. You look great and your fun and joyful personality came through in the pics.. made me smile and laugh seeing you. Great video!!

Clothing is my most minimal area.... Well that and toiletries. I am sure I still need to give it a go again. It's been a while since I have hit it. I don't have a good storage plan though for stuff I don't nessisarily wear all the time or out of season stuff. My closet area is very small.

They could all live on one side of the rail, or on a particular shelf. The main point is just to separate them somehow so you don't have to go through them each time you're looking for something to wear. 🙂

I have all my clothes in my wardrobe.. For all seasons, for all sizes (normal, fat, very fat). The ones I don't fit in at the moment are in labelled clear plastic bins in my wardrobe. My weight is up and down to much due to my burn-out and depression.. So it makes no sense to bin it just because it doesn't fit now. I buy clothes that are good quality, suit me, are not "on trend", they are more classic plain, so I know eg I can wear them in 2 yrs and they still look fine and I will like them.

Where do I put them if I take them out of my closet/rotation ? I don't have a garage, attic, or basement to put my seasonal so it goes in my closet. I do wear my elegant dress to church and going out with my husband. I have 2 blouse for each day of the week to do chores in and about one outfit to run earns for each day of the week. I definitely do not rely on magazines or other to influence how I dress.

I live in a tiny apartment. There's also no storage space. I keep my out of season clothes in a top shelf in my wardrobe. Right now skirts, shorts and dresses are up there. It's cold here and I don't want to be passing the shorts while searching for the warm pants.
@HowToGYST
@HowToGYST 3 жыл бұрын
As long as they're separate from the clothes you're currently wearing, that's fine. The whole idea is that you won't have to sift through them to get to the rest of your clothes, so maybe pop them in a tub, on a high shelf, in a corner, etc.
