Tbh you'd really want something in the kilowatt range, or better yet, a pulsed laser with hundreds or thousands of joules per pulse. That would cause plasma ablation and blow chunks of flesh off an enemy whilst causing unimaginable pain from the ionization stimulating and frying nerves.

I realize this is a bit of a necropost, but the reason they don't make long range focusing lenses is because one of the few SOTA tech laws on the books is to ban the sale of potential weapons-grade lenses in case people try and build laser weapons. Which, admittedly, people have been making a lot of progress at.

@@sagesheahan6732 they're not out of reach, they're just incredibly expensive and not as powerful as the people who think they're used in CA to create wildfires and melt cars. Styropyro does a lot of laser-related projects on youtube and he's probably at the top in that specific field here. The stuff he builds could certainly kill you when it comes to the electricity being used but the actual laser or DE weapon itself will barely harm you. It takes military-type budgets and decades of research to make DE weapons that could actually harm humans and even then they don't have focal lengths of thousands of meters like the conspiracy theorists tend to think.
