Great video with good examples. What is missing is with the step LFO that you should choose “Filter” as destination, otherwise it won’t work. It got me puzzled for a while, but I figured it out 😀

Thanks for the video. No one else seems to have gone into the details of the synth engine like you have. I wonder whether you believe the four partials is limiting? I understand the Montage equivalent is eight, which will allow you to effectively create a layer within a sound/tone, which makes things a lot simpler when sequencing. Hence, if you wanted to make a big synth sound, say with four oscillators , then add say a couple of PCMs, that would effectively give you a layer within a sound/tone on the Montage, but on the Fantom, only having four partials you could not do this unless you only used two oscillators for the synth sound. The only way I could see round this is to have say a couple of zones in Fantom, which would make up the layer, one zone for the four oscillator synth sound and the other zone for the two PCM sounds, then record a pattern for one zone and presumably copy from one to the other, which I think is possible. Would you agree?

As I understand it, the four partials are just for each synth instrument. You could sound 16 of those at the same time. Or a couple and a bunch of PCM sounds, etc. Again, as I understand it, you have nearly unlimited polyphony.

I really enjoyed the video on the Roland Phantom's 4 parts editing process! It's interesting how similar this approach is to the Roland Juno-G's method. In my opinion, the Juno-G also offers similar editing capabilities that allow for the creation and manipulation of complex sounds. I think both synthesizers are excellent tools for musicians!

Very educational video! I like the Deep Dive approach to show what some of the (seems endless) possibilities are on this keyboard. My new Fantom 7 arrives tomorrow so, I've spent the last week watching every KZbin Video available on it and this is one of the best. I will come back to reference the Deep Dive video often. I have a Fantom 8, and Genos - and while the design of sound is superior on the fantom- the truth is that the default sounds are superior with Yamaha. Especially their S.Art sounds.

Maybe worth a mention, but you can also run the VOCODER through the Analog filter aswell which is amazing...

Hi, please help. When I use the ADSR of the FILTER ENV, nothing happens with my sound, the opposite with de ADSR of the AMP ENV. I can not understand the diff..

You have to add a filter ENV amount.. like filter depth.

Uhm, you can fit 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512 in 1024.

I don’t know for sure but all indications are that the sequencer will be enhanced with future updates. I suspect we’ll see a further update by the time NAMM happens in January.

Its not a true sampler...its the same as the FA...very dissapointing that you cant make sampled patch's like Bass and Drum kits on the keys...there are a lot of basic things they have taken OFF from its predecessors like a true linear sequencer, Audio Tracks and the basic ability to even load a SMF

So, the analog filter is like just one? where you can route any partial through it but cannot be assigned to each partial to be controlled independently by it? What will happen then when different tones are programmed to use that one analogue filter?

It is just one analog filter (without any type of modulation such as envelope or LFO). The thought here is to use it as an effect by sweeping manually or by warming up the sound. Partials alone are not assigned to it, but rather each zone is. Your choice. You can even have it routed to the mains rather than the analog out. When routed through the mains, the system effects (chorus / reverb) can also be used with it.

Why, why...why???? I need an introduction of architecture, anyone interested in this synth as a sound design tool needs to know the architecture overview. For example: How many engines, do we have SuperNatural, Modeled, and PCM? How many oscillators? Polyphony and limitations with engines? Digital, analog or hybrid dependent on engine? Voice editing, more than one? .....you know....architecture. I am not going to wait for it.

Wilderness Music the PDF manual doesn't even cover this. I want to know about if the resolution is 1024 steps, can the sequencer record these movements... if so, what resolution would it record them in so as to NOT sound steppy? I'm with you ...if this is the "ducks guts" of a flagship, then let's get to the guts! I don't want the glossed over version of things if I'm to be spending this kind of money.

My Fantom G6/ System 8 combination is still better, because the Fantom has no user velocity layered multi-sample engine and will never have. It's better to buy a new iPad with Korg Gadget and other VA synths and sample libraries.
