Was on the waitlist for awhile and then by the time one was ready had changed my mind and used the budget for some Gyraf gear for tracking, but this video is making me reconsider. I've got a couple traditional stereo wideners but this is a quantum leap in features and it sounds great near as I can tell from the vid. Love the ability to focus on a frequency band.

I've had mine for a few years now. Incredible unit. I guess because I have the summer 2021 edition, my box's front panel has a much darker blue than the one in your video. Does the noise as you increase the Space section bother you more on single sources rather than full mixes?

I can live with the noise, it is noticeable if you push it real hard and you have to play around that but in normal use it’s more than fine.

Can you please expand on this? I'm interested in this unit, but I've put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into my hardware mastering chain to keep it noise-free. I know all analog gear creates some noise, but how much comes from this unit's space section? What is the noise floor when "space" section is cranked to 100%?

@@Standard.Candle for measuring the noise floor exactly, I’d have to do a test in my DAW to get you a number. I can tell you there is practically no noise remaining when the Width knob is turned full clockwise at 100%. It’s definitely noticeable in the Space section when the knobs are past 50 to 70% clockwise but a use case past that point is unlikely. Most of the time the width knob alone will get you the desired width. I moreso use the Space section on stems on single instruments. I also have the Neve MBP and the SPL vitalizer, the new MK3. I’ve compared the width knobs on those to the spacecraft. The spacecraft space section has a specificity to its space if that makes sense that’s different, but it really doesn’t affect the EQ curve the way the Neve MBP SFE section does. Hope that helps. Both the Neve and SPL MK3 are dead silent no matter the width.

Maybe next time you're working on a project if you could just cut the mid channel using the button in the top left, solo the sides, and then turn up the zoom setting (that's the one that generates side content right?) and see what happens to your noise floor, that would be highly informative (or if you can devise a better test) I already have a Neve MBT with a "width" knob, which just increases the gain of the sides I believe. Same as spacecraft or the SSL fusion. The real magic of the spacecraft is the "space" section which can generate sides or mids content out of thin air. But if this process introduces noise then it's 100% a return for me, and returning to europe is going to be tricky, as I'll have to pay import duties... it's an ordeal. I have an Avenson Mid-Side R due to arrive in a couple days, and I could not open it and replace it with a Spacecraft for my hardware mid/side encoder/decoder. But if the one feature that makes the Spacecraft unique (and cost 3000 euros) adds more than a few dB to the noise floor, then it's not worth doing that to my whole chain which has 11 units in it (was very hard to get all of this to run at -85db).

I'm not hearing this as an elite device. I use the Rupert Neve MBP and it has the features shown here. I can hear every move I make on it. This one is kinda cool but I Wouldn't buy it. To me it seems O-K.

I bought one two years ago and never took it completely out of the box cuz I figured I might end up needing to sell it (got laid off RIGHT AFTER placing my order), and the total was around $3300 -- but then just a week ago I got an audit letter saying I owed another $370 for my state sales taxes. Really thinking about finally selling it now cuz my funds are getting low, plus I'm still a noob producer and probably wouldn't know what the hell I'm doing with it anyways, lol.

quite expensive way to destroy stereo image, also depth knob doesn't do anything on mono sources as it's meant to fold side signal into the mid, if there's no side then there's no mid

I have their DrMS plugin that works exactly the same but gives more control in every way, when you actually start to use it you'll hear what it destroys, I don't care about youtube shills with funny haircut

Yes, that's what I thought, I prefer the stereo widener of the Neve Portico Master buss or even the SSL fusion plugin

Interesting how we all hear things differently :) I think this one sounds miles better than any software widener I’ve tried. It’s definitely pricey though. But so is the Neve portico master if you don’t need it’s compressor and limiter (which I don’t) .
