Hi friends! I hope you enjoy this tutorial! The frame is built with one 18 gauge, square wire and accented with one additional 18g wire. Bale and a few accent spots are wrapped with 22 gauge, half-round wire. The Materials, Measures, Tools, and Notecards are in the timestamps below.
Have 3 feet of 18 gauge, square, soft wire on-hand, 3 feet of 22 gauge, half-round wire on-hand. This gorgeous Labradorite Cabochon is 1 inch long x 1 inch wide x 4mm thick. If your stone is bigger, give yourself more wire. I am using natural copper wires.
I love making one wire pendant frames because it allows you to capture your stone and add as little more or as much more wire as you'd like. There is a wonderful little space at the bottom of this pendant where you can add more wire or even a very small gemstone of your own.
Have fun! Leave me questions in the comments or let me know what you think.

Just watched this one all the way through and I noticed how often you use bent nose pliers. Those are the only type of pliers that I haven't bought. I'm going to look for a pair since my chain nose pliers are too beat up and it's difficult to get a proper grip. Love the tip about looking down the cabochon from the top to make sure everything is in its proper place. Thank you for another great tutorial.

Your tutorials are awesome! You are very good at showing every single thing. I like how you explain each step and why. Like explaining why you should leave space between the stone and frame, not everyone does this. You are a excellent teacher. I don't mean to sound like I'm gushing but your tutorials are easy to follow. Plus your designs are elegant and sophisticated but still can be worn casual. So thank you for your time and knowledge. Where do you get your stones, they are always so beautiful?

This is so beautiful and easy to follow. I actually made this for my pastor as an appreciation gift. I really appreciate your generosity in sharing your talents with the world, one of my favorite tutorials. I feel more confident. Also, quick question, can I use 18 gauge square half hard wire instead of dead soft?
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry Ай бұрын
This is wonderful to hear! What a lovely gift for your pastor! Yes, you can use half hard wire, it will be stiffer to work with but if your hands can hand that, then there should be no difference, other than the harder wire. You can also harden your soft wire by burnishing the wires after the design is done, say on the body wire (google burnishing, make sure your tool is clean and smooth so you don't scar the pendant wire). I use this method a lot in many designs to harden long stretches of wire, such as the two body wires that hold the stone in place. I hope this helps! Great job! Thanks for watching!

Beautiful work! Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I always find it difficult to figure out how much wire to use for projects...especially 'loose airy loopy' earrings & always end up cutting/adding more wire.
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! I find it useful to sketch the design first on grid paper. Four squares = 1 inch and so after you draw your design, you can count the squares and come to a close approximation of how much wire will cover that space... also if you're adding elements... curls and such. Tracing your design on the grid paper with your wire then, will also help you keep your shape and size per earring. Hope that helps. Thanks for your comment.
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
If your earrings are the same on both ears, then one sketch. If they are mirrored (reversible opposites), then trace the wire on the paper for one earring, then turn the paper over and trace the wire for the second earring on the reverse image.

@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Great point and a valid concern, Lynn, thanks for bringing that up. If the wire is thick enough and you can get the ends pointed (wire slightly arcing) toward the stone, the ends should stay and be okay. However, having this brought up, you could always use half round or even weave those decorative ends to that inside frame wire. Excellent, excellent point, thank YOU. :))

Love the use of the bent nose pliers. I need to get a GOOD pair. Question - at minute 27:20 - would round nose, or jump ring making pliers work well to keep the curve even? At 38:38 - could you use a cup burr on a Flex Shaft too?

I love the simple elegance of this pendant!! I think I'm going to have to get some square and half round wire so I can make this one. Do you think 18 ga square and 22 ga half round are overall pretty universal gauges for pendants? OMG my list of "Izzy tutorials to try" seems to get longer by the day lol!! ;)
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Whoot!! I love working 18g and 22g together and for my pendants that you all have seen so far, they are the primary gauges, yes, with maybe some 16g too. I also blend and add wires to them tho, depending on what I'm designing, so some of them have some 20g (round and or square) ... some smaller designs might have some 22g square and or round... so it really depends on how big my stone is and what technique I'm using that day or plan for that piece. For example... Sometimes, to hold a bigger stone, I count on my larger gauges because I want minimal design (bigger wire, needs less to hold the rock for tension advantages)... however, if I want to wrap a larger stone and all I have is smaller wire, such as 20 or 22g square... then I might use a technique such as traditional banding, where I can start with a 4, 5 or 6 wire banded frame. I hope that makes sense? I could also use the smaller wire but weave them together for my frame and tension on my pieces, the tradeoff being more intricate design. So for my pendants... staples are 18g, 16g frame wires, either square or round. .... add on wires, I tend to use 18g, 20g ... banding, I tend to use 22g half round ... weaving, I tend to favor 28g round on 20g round or square. ... earring hooks are always 20g for me. Hope that helps?? or maybe I made muddy water, I hope not. :))

I buy wire from Riogrande.com and this is 18 gauge Copper square soft wire. Here's the link. They don't sell it in footage, so if you're looking for smaller spools, you can try stores in Etsy, there are several suppliers that sell 'project spools' (50 or less feet). Rio sells copper in 1 pound spools. I hope that helps!

How did you get your square wire so straight and aligned?
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry
@PerfectlyTwistedJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Karen, I always prepare the wire right off the spool... cut your length and then hold one end with metal pliers and rub out the wire with Nylon Jaw pliers or your fingers and a soft cloth like a polishing cloth, to remove bumps and twists from the wire. Then build your jewelry working to keep it square and untwisted. I hope that helps, I have several earlier videos showing the beginning. Let me know if that answers your question.
