John This was a great video. People talk a lot about mixing grass and leaves, Leaf mold alone is an excelent input for a garden. The friabilty of your soil incresses with brow mulch. I have no leaves this year the wind has removed them all from me. I hope your naighbor is ok.

Great job showing folks how they can make their own leaf mold John. I was happy to see you adding the twigs in. That chaos is what allows Nature to do that job better. It is how she does it. Air flow, moisture and no stratification.

Hi John, Leaves are Mother Natures Great Compost and most people who don't garden always piled them up and put them on the street in bags to be picked up, so great information for everyone to know. I hope you were able to check on your neighbor John!

Hope your neighbors are ok. Good video John. Good winter practices lead into good growing results in the spring and summer season. Just because nothing is growing doesn't mean there is nothing to do in the garden. Never done.😁

We don’t have a “catcher” on our mower, so we put the leaves in a large garden trashcan and use a weed eater to pulverize them, then we pile them up for decomp or use as a cover mulch at the beginning of winter directly on our raised beds!!!

Absolutely one of the best vids I’ve seen on the subject. Now I know why my own Grandmother would scoop up the Forrest mulch instead of purchasing from the garden center. Thank you. 👍

I get mine from the gardeners around my workplace they have to keep the site clean as it’s a large retail park so they normally just bag them up and leave in a pile for me as they know I use it. Then I do basically the same as you although mine is put in a large compost bin so I need to water every now and again.but I too try to put a few twigs in to give it some air. Nice one cheers 🍻

Yes we do this and add it to our one compost pile Our other side of the yard has no trees very little leaves so i leave them where they collect in my hedge Because its perennial plants and small trees they make it up through the leaves no problem Our leaf compost ends up being leaves and wood ashes from the wood stove we burn bones too And this pile gets oyster or clam shells whole from supper yumyum And usually any fish bone so we can burry that easily
@TheOtherSideOfTheStove4 жыл бұрын
We had so many leaves on our farm 65 acres- we would burn a lot of it- and yes it naturally would compost. You know a lot about this process. Those dogs are crying - and smart that they know about the stroke.

leafmold is not as nutritional as compost, but it is the best for mulch and it provides a lot of texture aspecially to clay soil, if addited every year it will change amazingly 👱♀️🇱🇺
