I just screamed at my daughter,” Don’t throw those away, I’m saving them” and she thought I was crazy. She said what are you going to do with those? So I showed her your video. We now have a strainer by the sink to dry tea bags. Lol. Thank you and many blessings!

I love the idea of using magazine images more than printables. Printables are cool but its sometimes difficult to find just the right one, depending on the theme of the journal. I'm also a stickler - junk journals should be made from, you know, JUNK. Stuff that would normally go in the recycle bin or the trash. Cereal boxes, magazine pages, and scraps of paper. Maybe even soda cans. This tea bag idea is cool.

Very interesting as I was wondering how to do this. And your tea dying video was great, yet a bit more work than I thought. When I saw the big jar filled with tea H2O and tea bags, I thought, "oh, she's stuffed papers in the jar, how easy," lol. I was dead wrong about that! I have dyed papers with tea and coffee, but not so many at a time. You're very ambitious, Natasha, and selling your beautiful journals, and all the goodies that go with them entails creativity of a higher kind. The fact that you are enjoying the process really matters to me because if I don't love what I do, then... I can see that you work hard to make your creations; and even appear to be creative on the spot as you go and I love that. I hope you see that I'm commenting on 2 videos cuz I saw them in a row. I love your videos so much and have written down your instructions (and my own little drawings when needed) for many many of them. Thank you so much for your generous sharing. XOXOJANE

The pictures really do look like they're from old magazines! I have some tea bags saved, so now it's off to look for some images to use. Another thing you can do to add to the vintage look is add some little specks of the same color to the page, sort of like how people use a toothbrush and ink or paint to splatter a page, but you only want a few small ones.

@debbiecooper31255 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness sweet lady, you have given me more fun today then I've had in a long time! I am using all my saved tea bags on old magazines, maps and cards. It is addicting and I didn't want to stop. I left wrinkles on one old advertisement of a beautiful lady smoking with a brand of cigarettes that had "old" in the word> I'm going to say my mom always said these would make you look old and wrinkled. I also found an ad for a lady all dressed in a hat and red suit and jewelry looking at washing machines that began with the word "Hot" so I will use that one too to prove laundry makes you look hot! I used my homemade decoupage glue, but the brand Decou-page worked better with a wet brush, but it is so expensive I switched to the other. It still works, just not as stiff on the pages. This tutorial was fun, and I'm glad I had all the supplies handy. I have many old magazines from 30's to 50's. The images in them are already vintage so I don't have to worry about finding vintage looking images. I get them at estate sales pretty inexpensively. One of the problems with vintage looking junk journals are images that look glossy and new, so now I can buy garden picture books and make them look old.
@TreasureBooks5 жыл бұрын
Hehehe Debbie, what a fun comment to read! You are SO lucky to have such old magazines!! And you are totally right about vintage looking journals having glossy and new ephemera :) It makes me happy that you dove right into this project! Thank you :)

loose tea works great for 'rust dying' fabrics … sprinkling it in with the rusted 'stuff' on fabric that is soaked with vinegar … some of the tea turns dark blue like indigo and sometimes black … fun fun

Ahhh this is exactly what I’ve been waiting for! I’ve tried to look for ways to use my tea bags and this is so accessible. I’ve seen them used as mini-canvases (beautiful artwork but beyond my ability) and as an added texture for master papers (I do like that extra texture) but I love how this is a simple way to age pictures! I have so many vintagy pictures but look too new and I don’t think they’d hold up to coffee/tea dying. Thank you for this!
