Awesome video Larissa. I’ve done something similar, by putting native stingless bees at work. Everyone at work finds them interesting and I get to keep looking after them. I don’t sell the native bee honey, (they only produce about 1kg or 2.2lbs a year) but they do buy my honey bee honey. I only sell what we are unable to use ourselves. Thanks for sharing TrickyTrev 🇦🇺👍🐝🍯

Great advice. What do you charge per hive to look after them and how often do you visit each place to check their hives?

How much I charge varies. I charge a monthly fee which does include honey harvesting and taking care of all the hives. I don't charge per hive. Most people want you to keep it simple and "do it all" so they don't have to bother with any of it. Some hives are in a more remote location down a bumpy road you have to drive slow on so my fee is more because of the time it takes to get there. It's important to consider driving time when deciding on a fee.

Could you do something on how to get them to draw comb I’ve tried a few different ways and they just don’t seem interested lol

There are tricks to getting the bees to draw out comb, but they don't work all that well. You can put a frame or two of honey in your empty supers, take off the queen excluders and feed them sugar syrup. But, if your bees aren't building much, then they're either sick (probably from varroa mites) or they're in a bad location. For me, the hardest part of beekeeping is finding a good spot for the bees so there's enough food for them. If your bees are in a good spot, and they're healthy, the only problem you'll have is that they're bringing in too much honey and you don't have enough equipment for them.

@@BeekeepingMadeSimple I have a wonderful spot, I own 15 acres full or wild flowers fruit trees very bee friendly here. It’s the too much honey they were storing before they we’re building new comb lol, I did some checkerboarding I’m gonna go back in this weekend see how they did. I just thought maybe you might’ve have any tips I melt down the wax and paint on the frames, I use plastic foundation seems to help. I hope your ok with all the fires 🔥 going on over there seems bad on the news✌️

I wouldnt eat honey from bee hives placed on roofs in cities. There was a program here in the UK a few years ago about people doing this and one guys honey ws red in colour and had a cola tast to it. The bees because there are not so many flowers in the cities or the flowers are growing in areas with high traffic densities were drinking the cola dregs fron cans discarded in rubbish bins. God knows where else these bees were getting their sugar from. Those disgusting sweet sauces they do in fast food joints possibly.

Ewwww! Gross! Poor bees drinking old soda to survive :( I had bees on the roof of a building in Philadelphia. They have the largest urban park in the country. There's quite a few trees and the neighborhood had a lot of community gardens and houses with front yards full of flowers. I'm not so sure about putting bees in the super dense downtown areas of some cities though.
