Make On-Screen Elements Jump Out of the Video!

In this video Andy shows you how to quickly and easily make elements of your screen recording or video, seemingly jump off the page with very little editing skills required to learn!
You may be surprised that this very polished looking video effect, is really just a combination of duplicating a layer, cropping, scaling, and dropping the opacity. That's it. Watch how, in under 4 minutes Andy shows you how to make elements fly off the screen!

I do this A LOT in my weekly Webinar edits. Small difference I use the Snapshot tool instead of duplicating the whole video. Take the snapshot of what I want to zoom in on, crop down to the focus, apply: Drop Shadow, Rounded Edges, and have the Zoom In Animation Fade In and Fade Out along with the Zoom Out. I also have a "Slow, Shallow" behavior favorite that I apply, it is the lowest slowest possible in and out pulse motion possible, juuuuuuust enough that there's perceptible movement but not enough to make you seasick. Just to draw attention a little bit more. I do really like the trick to take down the background opacity to give a spotlight look though! Will try that this week :)

What a fantastic tip. I have been creating a number of software tutorials, and would normally use zoom & pan to highlight specific areas, yeah it works well. However with this tip it adds greater emphasis and focus to the viewer, with that added FX feel 👌 I have also now been able to utilise this tip to make a more custom spotlight, where as spotlights I used before have always been straight edged, and did not always look great especially when the buttons on the software have rounded edges. I simply followed the process, thanks to this video, and the only thing I did not do was change the scale of the cropped tracked. So now I have a spotlight effect with nice rounded edges.

The simulation software I use does not permit the icons to be resized. Likewise, MS Windows does not let me resize or zoom in on the modeling tool icons. When recording the entire frame it is, at times, difficult to see the icons clearly. That's why this zoom in could be useful to me when preparing training materials.

I really appreciate how you are using simple techniques that when combined provide great affects. This is a great tip for reviewing due dates with my students to add that extra "call" to the specific calendar event. But it can also be very cool to focus on small elements that get difficult to see such as code, settings, etc.. THANKS AGAIN!!

By "exported frame" I hope you don't mean literally exporting a frame as image then pulling it back in to your timeline....right? If so, save even more time by just clicking the tiny Camera icon to the left of the timeline zoom magnifying glass. It'll take a picture and place it on your timeline without needing to export and import back in.

@AvadaVideos

Yeah, I like that. I will try it. Question is, how much can you zoom in without the image being pixelated. I'm making 4k videos.
@techsmith
@techsmith 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, if you're recording and producing at 4k, you don't have much wiggle room. We record in 4k and produce in HD so we can scale from 50% up to 100% without losing anything.

Awesome but for me you went through it with a little too many assumptions. "On this side of the red dot"? You lost me in that section. I would prefer you not use the rounding when you are teaching something else, and to go through each step just a little slower for a relative newbie like me.

What helped me was the concept that the first dot on the custom animation corresponds to the BEFORE state and the second dot corresponds to the AFTER state. So click the second dot, change something in the properties panel, then click the first dot and see the two states compared. First dot=before > second dot=after. Then the distance between the dots simply corresponds to how many seconds it takes to shift from BEFORE to AFTER. Before state, after state, how long to move from before to after. Hope that's useful!
