I've watched all five of your vinyl fencepost repurposing storage videos. I'm expecting the next ones to be on the mechanic's side where you start in on the combination wrenches, pliers and maybe even sockets. ;-) May I kindly suggest that you create a playlist of this group and continue to add to the playlist as time goes on? The reason I suggest this is because once I watched the first one it took me a while to find the rest, but being the organized person that you are I was surprised you hadn't already created that playlist! ;-) I appreciate your humor very much and certainly appreciate longer videos rather than shorter ones - whatever it takes to get the job done! Starting my search today for local fencing companies who want to donate offcuts. :) I've been watching your introductions to take notes on the parts storage behind you to the left of your pallet door. Wouldn't mind a shop tour in great detail! Also, it drives me crazy that you didn't move the small, attached cupboard of your left hand toolchest and attach it to the right side of the chest. No, I'm not OCD, not me! ;-)

I had a kid working with one day doing some base board. As always on tight questionable measurements I go just a little long to allow for correction. He picked up on my very scientific terminology , "skosh." A couple times I had to take more than one "skosh" off to make a piece fit. He thought it was funny so I explained to him that the problem was that I was using Imperial skoshes and he had been using Metric skoshes. Crazy kid!

Those drawers are nice but they'd be even nicer with one or two very low watt LED lights embedded in alternating sides with an on/off switch as you opened or closed the drawer. It gets dark back there and we're not getting better eyesight as we age. A single 100W or less solar panel with a couple of inexpensive 6V batteries and a solar charge controller is all that is needed.

My daughter did an internship at th zoo in Fargo while she was in college. They had an animal called a Turr. One of them kept ramming my daughter and had very bad bruises on both legs and hips. When she called and told us this I cut a plastic 55 gal barrel in half and put two hand holds in the top. I called it a deturrent, and it proved to be effective. At the time we lived In Saint Joseph Missouri and needed to get the half barrel up to her in Fargo. Fortunately we had just bought her a car and needed to take it up there. My daughter had been collecting peacock feathers and put them in the trunk along with the half barrel every night as she left. A few weeks later some of her friends went to Fargo for a visit. They decided to venture into Canada to see another town named Saint Joseph, but when they were coming back across the the border the guard ask what she had in the trunk , my daughter replied a half barrel and some peacock feathers. The guards thought she was being a wise guy. They made them all get out of the car and proceeded to search the car. One guard open the trunk to look then got a smirk on his face as he called the other guard over and they had a good laugh. My daughter and friends were allowed to continue on their way soon after.

Thanks for sharing the stories, Frank (y) Love the "deturrent" :D - it's just like the things and words my dad also was so good at coming up with. When I googled "turr animal" the first I hit was: "Turr is the local name for the murre, which looks something like a diminutive, flying penguin, and men in boats are blasting away at it in the only legal, non-aboriginal hunt of migratory seabirds in North America"... But then I found "The West Caucasian tur is a mountain-dwelling goat-antelope native to the western half of the Caucasus Mountains range..." and it sounds a bit more like the one your daughter was in contact with .. than the flying pinguin! Stay safe, creative & positive :D Greetings from Denmark (y)

You can generally find metric wood screws in the same aisle along with the aluminum magnets. I didn't use plastic from the fence post top because it tends to be rather inconsistent in thickness. I spotted it because we have similar, metric rags here in the UK. Obviously they aren't as good, but now we're out of the EU, many of us are hoping we can import inch ones from the USA again. I'm guessing you had to use metric rags because you're up close to Canada. Did it cause you any issues and if so how did you cope?

Love your channel, great teaching and great ideas. And your shop door was a project really worth following and learning from. And with that this door with your channel name is a GREAT video introduction, almost as good as the chocolate chip cookie and milk finish. I do want to point out though that your vertical "NEXT LEVEL CARPENTRY" lettering is not popping as well as it should. Take a close look and the word "NEXT" stands out the best but it fades starting into "XT". and as you look up the lettering everything fades more and more to the point where "PE" in "CARPENTRY" is really tough to make out. It is only because you pay SOOOOOO much attention to detail that I point this out and you might want to play with lighting angles and whatever to make "NEXT LEVEL CARPENTRY" really pop. And looking a little more at the intro the whole left side is much brighter than the right side. It seems that you and the door should be the main attraction and so brighter than the shop wall. Thanks for all the GREAT videos!

A decision was made to make the lettering on that door more subtle, hence the brushed stainless material. Initially I was going to go white or black; something that would really pop, but was convinced otherwise. Regardless, your observation about lighting shortcomings are noted and acknowledged. As much as I realize all the things that could be done to improve video production quality, I'm sure you understand how much time and effort goes into not only doing the actual work shown but also video production. Makes me wish, for viewer's sake, a video production team was an option but reality dictates otherwise so I rely on viewer's forbearance to keep Next Level Carpentry alive. Best, Matt

@@NextLevelCarpentry Thx for your thoughtful reply, makes me feel my time spent commenting was worthwhile. I am sure you are continually faced with video content(what you are teaching) VS video presentation decisions, one only has so much time. It is obvious that content is more important and for sure you still do a PDG (Pretty Darn Good) job of presentation. I really like the way you jam pack presentations with significant content. What I mean you speed through redundant processes and devote time to things that need better explanation. Your ideas and unique approaches to many topics many times border on being profound. You and your channel are very unique, stay at it. So you know I do a bit of photography and sometimes just a shift in where light comes from makes a world of difference and I guess it is this knowledge that motivated my initial comment. And the proof is in the pudding, the NE letters in NEXT show as good as they would if white or black and it is all in the way the light hits hits. I guess another thing that motivated my initial comment is the way I see your pencil with NEXT LEVEL CARPENTRY often in the background. And can't help to feel, even with your limited time, that a bit of effort to set up your initial video entry might be worthwhile. After all fix it once and it will be there for every subsequent video. I really like the title "NEXT LEVEL CARPENTRY" and would like to see it and your fantastic door really pop and don't think it requires black or white letters, just a lighting direction fix.

@@williammagee7514 makes me wish you lived nearby to coach and help on those little details that make such a huge difference! Every time I set up for a thumbnail image photo I think how much better it would be with a pro doing the composition and Lighting. The only professional photo I've ever had done was for the making tsumiki video and I'm sure your photographer's eye can tell the difference. For the time being though I will probably end up making more incremental improvements but rely on polite and understanding viewers like yourself to keep the channel growing. Best, Matt

He was using some telescopic spring-loaded props in one video, as a "helping hand" when working alone and needing to temporarily support something overhead, but I can't find the video or the device on his amazon page. Can anybody remember that?

The third hand telescoping poles you saw are shown in the Pro tips for installing faux l beams video... You can also click the second Amazon link in this videos description and will find those poles about halfway down the list of items... Best, Matt

@@NextLevelCarpentry Thank you for taking the time to answer (Y). I Should have found them myself but somehow I'm extremely bad at finding the right search terms to google/find anything.

@@ripprind I apologize too: I intended to include this direct link in my first reply... www.amazon.com/dp/B000067S12?ref=exp_nextlevelcarpentry_dp_vv_d since sometimes the simplest of things stymie me too! 😯 BTW I have 4 of the 3rd hand poles which, although I don't use them real often, have come to rely on them for all manner awkward applications... The videos seem to have an Imperial end and a metric end, I let it to someone smarter to figure which is which.

Seriously, we have metric woodscrews here (and across Europe). They are HORRIBLE. Most of what you can easily buy here now are construction-grade, and the small sizes especially are, well, just stupid. The shaft diameters are in 0.5mm increments, and the lengths in 5mm, but that's way too coarse. Oldies like me immediately think, 'this needs 3/8" No.4s', and then realise you have no idea what that means as a metric size, and whatever comes closeest isn't close enough, even if you could buy it (which you can't as the shops don't keep them anyway!). And don't get me started on double-start threads! Yup, they put those on small screws too, so they don't stay fastened. Completely idiotic!
