How awesome that we can watch these old shows from way back. I can remember watching these shows as a young kid. It’s a damn shame that they just don’t do tv like this anymore, now everything seems to be “reality shows.” Love that I can watch this on KZbin, brings back great memories.

"Make Room for Daddy" was produced at Desilu, although not by Desilu. Despite all this, it was Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz who engaged Danny Thomas for the show and it was Desilu that promoted the show to audiences. Ball and Arnaz considered it their third show. even though they didn't produce it. Danny Thomas was publicly ever-grateful to Ball and Arnaz for taking a chance on his show. That was evident in the crossover shows that Danny Thomas' tv family and thr Ricardos made on each other's shows.

@pkspalding4 жыл бұрын
Her death was just discussed on the show, and barely, at that. Having a major character die was considered a risky move for the 1950's. Divorce was never an option in an era where the word 'pregnant' was taboo and couples slept in twin beds. They were going to have Danny Williams as a single parent but the ratings slipped, so Marjorie Lord was brought on board as Kathy O'Hara, as well as her daughter, Linda.

In 1956, the series became "THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW", through its final episode in 1964. Daytime repeats on NBC (1960-'65) used the "MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY" title for the 1957-'61 episodes, although several of the original "MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY" episodes were also repeated.

Two actresses, and both left due to serious health issues. First, Louise Beavers, and then Amanda Randolph. They were both very talented actors and it's sad to contemplate the sort of roles African American actors were forced to play. Servants, mammies and so on. Randolph certainly did the best she could with the material given her.

@jonnoflanno20927 жыл бұрын
Jean Hagen died of throat cancer in 1977. Make Room for Daddy turned out to be quite successful and Ms Hagen continued to star in this TV show for 3 seasons running until she left, reasons not explained but various rumors abounded that she was too tempermental to work with the cast, had several rows with her leading co-star Danny Thomas, wasn't happy the way the producers portrayed her character as being too ineffectual for her liking or was a closet alcoholic, a fact which would blight her TV/film career so her character was killed off until Marjorie Lord took over, being cast as the 2nd wife.

After a year a look alike actress replaced her, she eventually left the series too when they married her off to Pat Harrington. Sherry wanted to break out of being typecast as sweet little Terry, by her late teens she had blossomed into a great beauty and roles as an ingenue on such shows as 77 Sunset Strip awaited. She was great as a gun moll in one episode! Unfortunately, and ironically it being Hollywood, her incredible curves held her back as producers took one look at her and didn't take her seriously as a legit actress capable of dramatic roles. They might have had a small point, in one 77 Sunset Strip episode she played a mountain girl in pants so tight they looked painted on, she was so distracting you lost sight of the plot. That was par for the course on 77, they had the most starlets appearing in Hollywood history, but Jackson wanted a serious career. She didn't get it, but she is a fine person and you won't find negative thing said about her in Hollywood, which is rare.
@pkspalding4 жыл бұрын
She left the show after five years. Was very close to Jean Hagen, who had a three year contract and left then. Jackson wanted to leave but was held to her five year contract. In the show, she went off to college, after making a few appearances to set up an 'off to college' storyline. Penny Parker replaced her later, in order to marry her off and move to the West Coast.
