The maker of that nose doesn't make mistakes, My Dad had a real Roman nose and I loved His entire face. :

This script was inspired by what actually happened to Danny while he was under contract to MGM between 1946 and '48. Louis B. Mayer INSISTED that Danny get a nose job; Danny refused, telling him in effect that his nose was his heritage, and that he couldn't face his family with nothing less than what he was born with. Danny's agent, Abe Lastfogel, eventually agreed with him.....and any chance of Danny being placed under a long-term contract by the studio vanished, while "the beak" remained.

His nose didn't spoil Danny's excellent performances in 1950s films 'I'll See You in My Dreams' and the remake of 'The Jazz Singer.'

If he had applied with him, he would have regretted it, because they would have continued to make more and more request for him to comply with, and holding his career over his head. It takes courage to stand up for what you believe in, and I admire Danny, so much for that.

What a poignant episode. Hollywood is all about glamour but how refreshing that an accomplished star like Danny Thomas bucked the system and especially in an era of Hollywood glitz and surface generalities! ( my apologies for the redundancy).

In a couple of the later episodes that I saw in the 1960s, they had called Danny "banana nose".

For some reason I find comfort watching this. I was born in 1980 ..I imagine having a life like this. I feel like I seen this before.

There were more remakes in the later years than I realized.

Danny loved this script SO MUCH (and it was so personal to him), that's one reason why he had it slightly rewritten and filmed again, in 1962.

...and based on the fact that MGM wanted Danny to have his nose fixed when he was under contract to them in the late '40s. HE ABSOLUTELY REFUSED. However, that didn't stop his real-life daughter Marlo from altering HERS.....

Westerns like Cheyenne, Bonanza and others recycled the same storylines too. Had no idea how much Hollywood recycled itself.
