$120 for a PS2 copy of Silent Hill 2... I'm happy to have a Modded PS2 with a hard Drive 😏. Seriously, this PC Mod feel right to me, the work behind it feel that the team want to be the most accurate to the original PS2 version and simulate the flow of it.. I'm still a neewbie of the Silent Hill franchise (only play Shattered Memories on Wii and I totaly love it) so You make me think about trying this way to play SH2 👍.

Agreed man, and while this of course will NEVER be 100% 1/1, it reaches pretty damn close and playin them side to side feels indistringuisahbel to each other. I think I can stick with this version no problem over the PS2.

I first got the game used at a GameStop around 2009 or so. It was 20 bucks, and came with the original case and booklet. Even at time the cashier was surprised and told me how rare that is. So i got home and... Played it a bit, got to the clock puzzle and gave up (i was like 10, give me a break) and didnt touch it again until around 2015. I had just got out of a long term mental health facility (ive battled with suicidal depression for most of my life) and when i got home, it started to pour, was really dreary out, fog everywhere, it reminded me of the game. So after not playing it for a good 6-7 years now, i said why not? I wasn't enrolled in school yet, and had nothing else better to do, at the very least it would take my mind off things. And man i fell in love with it. The entire day it rained and stormed harder than i had ever seen, the sounds, the emotion, the atmosphere, it perfectly matched what i felt inside, Beating it right as the morning sun began to shine. The suns rays warming me as the credtis rolled after getting the leave ending. I know it may sound corny or long winded, but this game got me through a really bad time in my life and helped me overcome alot of my suicidal thoughts and actions.

Fantastic vid Kelpy! I love the amount of effort the enhanced team put into the pc port, and saw they’re even looking into fixing bugs brought by playing in 60fps. Enhanced edition is always getting better! Always look forward to your videos!

Depends how accessible it is in the area. Over here since it's so bustling in LA everythingnis overpriced. You can't find good deals like that anywhere in the city since there are hunters everywhere.

It's usually a rarity when it does happen, as SH2EE said in full detail their server providers didn't give them the advertised speeds despite the traffic. But otherwise it's such an incredible installer. They doin God work man.

A couple of months ago I finished this jewel for the first time in the PCSX2 emulator, and the truth is that it plays quite comfortably there, with widescreen and everything. But for those who prefer to play the PC version this mod makes everything easier. Nice video Kelp.

Same, I played it on PCSX2 as well and had no issues. I know the PC Version + Enhanced Edition mod is technically better but I just prefer PCSX2

This is a great version, possibly the best out there but man why can't I strafe left to right like you could on PS2? Ive tried xinput, dinput, xbox and PS5 controller and nothing makes it do it, the controls are fine and rumble works, just feels so off picking up items with square / x(xbox), am i missing something here?

I don't think so but if you feel it's a problem send a message to the devs. They are actively fixing any problems so its possible it could be resolved.

When I was 15, I played through it for the first time but I was too stupid to understand all the symbolism and [SPOILER] the reveal near the end 😅. I wonder now if I should replay this or the remake first?

I would absolutely recommend going back and playing it to see what the remake has or lacks there of. I'm actually not a fan of what the REmake trailer has done so far since it deviates everything that James was about and his personality. It seems to be changing the kind of story that was told and not so sure if I like that. Def recommend playing it again, and this ain't a bad way to do so

@@Kelphelp OK thanks, that is a good suggestion. I will replay it before I try on the remake. Do you mean how James appears more determined and "over-acting" in the sh2 remake trailer or do you mean something else on how his character seems different?

Mostly that. He seems deeply ridden with guilt and sadness. But...the thing is WE aren't supposed to know that. The story specifically didn't tell his story to be Introduced with guilt until much much later when we figure it out. That small detail is a big deal with Silent Hill and changes the story dynamic.

Naw you good man. Yea you definitely need to scope out a copy yourself. Setup thr game as a normal install and then when it's running you install the mod

I appreciate the hard work, but I personally do not like the option of the online installer they've gone with. A standalone installer is probably preferred by most people.

I think having an option of either online or individual packs is where it's at, instead of one option. But even if that was the case servers would have been down either way. The installer works very well though

@@Kelphelp I'm sure it's great and is a nice way to make things easier for people, but from my personal experience an offline installer is better for archival purposes. ie, one day this project will be long forgotten, but retro collectors/gamers will always have backups they'll continue to share online, but that's kinda difficult if there is no offline installer to share.

Agreed, I did edit this out but in the video I had to refer to an Internet Archive link for SH2EE when the installer was bad. It was edited out due to redundancy but I wholeheartedly agree some way to archive this work is worth doing. Either like an internet archive or github

I installed the enhanced edition on my pc without needing any discs. Because the pc version is basically abandonware, you can find it online easily.

The PS2 version is a lot better than the PC version especially on the PS2 emulator also the PC version and the PS2 ROM is still considered piracy since neither are being sold by Konami anymore

@@Kelphelp the one I noticed right off the bat was you mentioned dynamic range in relation to surround sound, when dynamic range is really the difference in loudness between sounds. Low dynamic range means that all the audio will be similar in terms of volume, but a high dynamic range means that there is a great amount of difference between the volumes of sounds. I live with roommates and am awake late at night, so if I'm not using headphones I use low dynamic range so that I can control the volume a little easier. I can see how it can be a bit of a slip up though, because typically with a surround sound setup you would want a higher dynamic range to sell that realism in audio. Imagine going to a movie theater and the explosions are the same sound as the footsteps xD Also, with the audio compression stuff, I believe the original pc release had poorly compressed audio, so they ripped the higher quality audio from the ps2 release instead. I don't know if it is necessarily lossless on ps2 or not but I do know it was higher quality and that's why they used it. There is no such thing as converting lossy compression files to lossless ones, only the other way around.
