Another interesting video that I really enjoyed watching. As a composer for TV and film, I find it most natural to work out my Synth V melodies on a keyboard rather than drawing them onto the piano roll. Once i have my singing melody recorded as midi in my DAW i simply use the “export midi” function in my DAW and then import that midi file into Synth V. Up it comes, quantized with proper note durations and ready to begin humanizing in Synth V. Cheers and keep the good videos coming!

Thank you, I'm glad that the video was interesting to you while you are so familiar with the tool yourself! I see the advantages of using a keyboard to get the notes into Synth V, yes, your modus operandi saves the clicking and drawing time. Certainly worth a try so I can compare, thank you for the description of how to proceed. I really appreciate your feedback, cheers! :-)

Multi-syllable words usually sound more natural when written "(natural)(+)(+)" instead of "(nat)(tur)(al)", and if you can get away with "(natural)" the transitions flow best. I find it's best to micromanage syllables _only_ when something isn't working, especially if you're duplicating lyrics for an alto, tenor, etc,... Otherwise you're forcing your newest, most adaptive voice packs to behave the same as the oldest and potentially missing out on a more natural, default performance. What I'm struggling with these days is tempo changes, and swing-to-triplet Jazz timings without doing everything on a 1/128 grid.

Hi, thank you for your interesting feedback! I fully agree, in fact I never divide words into separate syllables, but work with the plus sign and, if necessary, with modifications of the length of the bars. Like for „invisible“ I would make the vi, si and ble shorter. It often depends on the melody which timing fits best. And yes, in some cases words sound best when written as a whole into the bar, like the word „virtual“, with which I fought a long time before I found that out! I have just finished a song where time signature and tempo change frequently. As I work by rendering each line of the vocals separately I didn’t have to use a minimal grid. So, with your new project, I would cut the vocals up into blocks that have the same tempo and/or signature and import them separately into the DAW. Of course, if the changes occur within the single sentences of the vocals, you may have to switch to 1/128, but then only for that (those) special sentence(s).

@fr33flight I've downloaded an evaluation copy, but I can't work out how to activate a voice. I have downloaded one, but nothing I do works, and so the controls for play, voice, etc do not show on the screen. Any suggestions gratefully received as I am totally frustrated.
@-SoundMatrix-
@-SoundMatrix- 9 ай бұрын
Hi, I suppose that you mean Synth V Studio Basic (the free version) by evaluation copy. After the download, all controls (play etc.) should be visible, even without a voice installed. The voice slot would be empty, but you would hear a synth instrument instead of the voice by clicking on the notes in the piano roll. If this doesn’t work as described, the problem is with Synth V, not the voice. It would probably be best to delete it and install it anew (the direct link is in the description of this video). Then afterwards re-install a voice. By double clicking it, it should go into Synth V automatically. I hope that this works! :-)

Hi, thank you! :-) If you make a youtube search, you will find some tutorials that are well made, but I can't think of any that really includes all domains of working with Synth V. The reason is that there are many possibilities to use it and everybody has their own way that works best for them. Some prefer to work in Sing mode with AI Retakes, some prefer to work in Manual mode with Auto Pitch tuning. Some prefer to use the VST plug-in, some prefer to insert the music as arrangement into the Synth V stand-alone and compose there. Also the ways of rendering can be different. All of these ways are good, as long as they have beautiful vocals as a result :-) Since you have Synth V Pro, my tutorials "Solaria made easy" and "Working with Auto Pitch Tuning" might be of interest to you, here are the links: kzbin.info/www/bejne/narFn2qum7B8jtk , kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYWUfpJorL-Ij5o . I hope it can be helpful to you and I hope that you will have as much pleasure composing with Synth V as I have!

@@-SoundMatrix-Thank you for this. On the Solaria video they say “Now I would like to hear what it sounds like with the effects (desser and voc setting in logic) - this is not possible with the VST version in Pro. This went over my head because you had exported the track into Logic. Wouldn’t you be essentially listening back to exactly that! Thanks. The video is great. It’s seems like something I can copy the steps and learn by doing, something that is almost always absent in most YT videos. (Just copy these steps to create what I did!)

Welcome! I remember how I felt when Synth V was new and how I wished there was some kind of understandable user’s guide… It would have saved me much time. And that is the reason why I want to share what I have learned. In the video, I always use the exported wav tracks in Logic, not the VST as a plug-in. I met problems with the VST, so I never used it. I mentioned that it didn’t allow me to put de-esser and voc settings on the track, because that was my experience. However, I hear from people in the comments that they don’t have these problems with other DAWs. So maybe it is a problem with Logic only. I don’t have enough information about that and I’m always glad to get feedback on that topic. My focus is on composing, making it possible to get quickly ready to create. I like an easy workflow and not waste too much time on technical things, as I care more about the music :-)

@@-SoundMatrix- Thank you for replying! Did you learn on your own when first starting out? Should I just open it up and start clicking? I found one video, on another subject, the guy was saying he is trying out new beta version of update and you can now convert audio to midi. I guess he meant in Synth V. Thanks again
@-SoundMatrix-
@-SoundMatrix- 9 ай бұрын
Yes, I think you should just open Synth V, start composing your first vocal line, render it, then put it in a song that needs vocals :-) Learning by doing, as you said, and that’s what I did too. I think you are talking about Mix Phantom’s video, I have seen it. His channel is a good place to get an overview of what is new in Synth V at each update. You can also find this info on the Dreamtonics website, but what they write is mostly hard to understand, so it is better when somebody shows it. There are quite a lot of Audio to Midi tools on the market now, also free plug-ins ( if you are interested, here is much information about those tools: www.audiocipher.com/post/audio-to-midi ) And it will be in the new version of Synth V, yes. I am more interested in making Audio out of Midi, so it is not really something for me :-)

What would you suggest for creating classical 4 part choirs?
@-SoundMatrix-
@-SoundMatrix- 10 ай бұрын
Hard question... :-) I don't know all the voices that exist, but certainly most of them are not adequate for this purpose. I would recommend Asterian for the bass voice, no doubt about that. Maybe he could fit also for the tenor. When it comes to the female parts I think of Solaria, of course, that great vibrato... But I am not sure if she could sound entirely "classical". I made once an experiment trying to let her sing the Queen of the Night aria. She didn't sound right, more Broadway than opera. But that may be the fault of my inputs, maybe somebody else could make it better. So I can't give you a sound advice, I'm sorry. It would be extremely interesting to know if this classical sound is possible with Synth voices, so please let me know when you have any example!

Hi. Another awesome tutorial, really really helpful. Sorry to bother again but could you help with a few words I just can't figure out by myself: 04:33 ___ centered in the middle of the note. And regarding the transforming singing tools mentioned in an earlier comment, any thoughts about them?
@-SoundMatrix-
@-SoundMatrix- Жыл бұрын
Hi, and thank you again for your encouraging feedback, I’m glad that the tutorials are helpful to you! 04:33 - a regular (pitch) curve, centered in the middle of the note. When you have worked a while with Synth V voices, you will be able to see by the pitch curve if the note will be pleasing to you, even before you have heard it. A regular curve means a perfect sound. For me, at least ;-) MegaPixel404 gave me some precious hints here in the comments, some of them have helped me in my work. But I haven’t found the time yet to research about the transforming singing tools, as I have other priorities, so I can’t tell you much about them. If you are interested, I forward to you 2 links that he sent me about that topic (without guarantee, as I haven’t looked them up yet): lalals.com/ musicfy.lol/ I am working currently with the new rap mode in Synth V and the (free) voice of Ritchy. It is a fascinating new field, so different from programming singing voices, and I will publish a short tutorial about it soon
