Check the ECU codes, brake system especially the master cylinder and the lines, the synchros in gears 1-2 and 3-4 may go out, there will be a misfire issue with them. Lots of rattles from the transmission at 4K rpm. Also check the trunk and engine bay for any bends or signs of heavy damage.
@amcezm0n3y47 Жыл бұрын
So I think I know what you mean by lots of rattles around 4k rpm. Especially in 3rd and 4th gears when you let off the throttle while in gear. It comes and goes and just replaced my clutch, flywheel, and throw out bearing. Idk wtf it is

my 2013 has 118k miles and just replaced the clutch and full suspension refresh with HKS hipermaxx coils . feels like a new car again besides the little quarks that come with a 10 yr old car. the cricket HPFP, the rattles fromthe interior hear and there. I adore this car. Ive owned 57 cars in the last 20 yrs. most enthusiast cars like this (rx8 r3, evo 10, a few wrxs, several aw11 mr2s, miatas, and a gaggle of e39s and e36\46\90 bmws mostly. with a few audi and mercs sprinkled in) this is my favorite. Something about driving a light weight car fast is just special

Rafid Khan The FRS has a recall for valve spring problems in the earlier models. It requires engine removal to fix. Of course that's supposed to be covered by the dealer under recall.

A lot of these 2013 are for sale right after the valve spring recall work. Usually the mechanics use too much liquid gasket and starve the motor of oil. Rather than accepting responsibility the dealerships tries to charge the clients $6000 for a new motor build. If you are looking at a 2013 year FRS or BRZ I would only consider one that has not had the recall done as the fail rate is like 1%.
@elijahe75724 жыл бұрын
I managed to score a 2013 with 50,000k. No issues to date with regular maintenance and some pretty abusive driving on my end, despite the car having not gone in for the valve spring recall. My mechanic advised me to skip it unless I actually find myself having the issue down the road (but you're right, 1% is pretty slim)
@saulespino25104 жыл бұрын
Elijah E I think they might have a problem with the valve springs if they modify the engine with a turbo or supercharger.
@SupramanTRD4 жыл бұрын
It's because early recalls were done by mechanics that had no experience with boxer engines. If the recall was done in later years, and has mileage on it after the recall, it's fine.

I bought my 2013 knowing the recall WASNT done knowing this. WHen I got my clutch replaced because of the damned TOB going bad they tried to convince me to get it done and said that they have not hadd any problems there. I asked them to put that if I got it done and my engine failed shortly after they would foot the bill guarantee in writing and I would do it and I got crickets ...

Im unsure if I should check for sometimes idle erratic and have a dealer setting scanner system verification on the erratic idle symptom verified by ideally a dealer setting repair shop specializing in erratic idle engine code generic symptom found.

Idle dip can be caused by gunk in the throttle body flap, making it harder to idle when the solenoid tries to open it only slightly. My 2018 has some, just did 4500km drive in very cold temperatures after the car sat for a few weeks. It's easily accessible and easy to clean. I'd give it a go if you come across it
