Also want to add, it takes a great teacher with great (and I don't mean just abundant) amount of patience to really teach. My husband taught me how to drive a car, a tractor, lawn mower and keeps teaching me everyday on things. But we learn from each other. You have to be open to accept what that person is teaching. I guess that's what keeps us together so well. God Love him, I don't know what I would do without my husband. (I don't think anyone else would have the patience lol) great job both of you on everything you do together. You are loving together, not just living together like I've seen some couples do.

Travis, I feel your pain. When I was 18, I got thrown from a horse in the middle of November - At that time in Virginia the ground was frozen, and it resulted in a couple of small fractures in my spine. I had to wear a "sacral corset" for 8 weeks. Back then, it was a full-sized, metal-boned, contraption from my tailbone to my upper back! I felt like a Barbie doll! I couldn't sit right in it, couldn't breathe right in it - I was just plain miserable! I do hope the brace they have you in isn't quite as bad as those old ones! Miss Brooklyn, you did awesome! I think you just found out that using a wheel hoe can be an effective exercise program. I know it sure works for this old lady! And Girl, you make it look easy! As for field peas, yes, please! I'll definitely be growing some.

Found this video after looking for when you planted those 'Tennessee' peas. Didn't find that video yet, maybe it wasn't on film, but glad I saw this sweet video. What a gem of a video! You two are just wonderful together. That is true love right there! 🥰 Had to comment though, that my saved pea seeds are germinating at least 85% even at 4 years, after the year saved. Kept indoors, glass jars with O2 packets, after they are completely dry. No freezer storage or anything. South Carolina growing conditions. No way I'd be happy with only two varieties to rotate through. 😆 I have a five year rotation, and only two of those years are for new pea variety trials. Love the versatility of these delicious peas! The cream peas, like White Acre, make a great baked bean, at maturity. Shelled very green used for succotash, instead of frustrating to shell limas, and so on. What mine do, in regards to aphids, is they show up in droves on only about 2 plants per 80. So I use an exam glove, and horticultural soap, plus neem oil in a jug. Pour some into the glove (over the plant), and wipe the infected plants down while squishing. Do this every few days until there are NO more. Gross, and you lose production for a bit on those few plants, because you can't help squeezing blooms and such, but it stops the spread. (For me, this is faster overall then trying to get neem oil out of a sprayer so often.) Stink bugs and the weevils just have to be drowned in soapy water, as often during the day as you can get to the plants with a bucket. Don't save seeds with a puncture hole.

Loved this year old video of you teaching Brooklyn from start to finish how you plant, grow, and cook cowpeas. I appreciate Brooklyn sharing her recipe of cooking field peas in the instant pot. I'll definitely use her recipe. This video has been a great teaching tool for me as I need all the teaching on growing cow peas I can get! Don't have the garden plots you have unfortunately -- just starting out with a small space. For my small family of three I'm planting a small crop of pink eyes and of crowder peas as I wanted some diversity in what I hope to be serving to my family later this summer/fall. Gardening is hard work for sure, but so rewarding!! Also after a year since this video was made, hoping and praying your back injury has healed. 😊 Thanks again for the demonstration, advice, and tips given today on cow peas.

Brooklyn's not only easy on the eyes but she's mighty handy as well. Solid pick. I understand that the White Acre variety of field pea shows resistance to pea curculio. I'm alternating OMRI listed Monterey Garden Insect Spray (spinosad) with Azera (azadirachtin and pyrethroids) which is even labeled for leaf footed bugs. Nothing organic will stop that pea curculio though, so bring out the Sevin and don't look back. I'm trialing six determinates and six heirlooms so I'll send you those results. Take the time to heal while you teach Brooklyn along with the rest of us..

@@LazyDogFarm Travis, I've fractured most of my vertebrae over the years. Always have some pain but just take lots of breaks, lay flat for a bit. Doc wanted to put a bolt in my spine but I would have lost all flexibility. Keep on swimming, swimming, swimming.

Travis, most Yankees don't know what butter beans are, much less Fordhook butter beans. And if you tell them lima beans, they think of those dried things that make enough gas to float a hot air balloon, not the fresh green beans. I'm out in Cali and sure do miss butter beans. Where I am, nights don't stay warm enough, so I had to give up planting them. Sure do miss some of the good Southern foods that just aren't readily available in a lot of other places. So glad y'all got that other opinion on your back. Many blessings.

I just had to go in "The Surgical Center " & got an "Spinal Shot " in my lower back. My Dr. said I should never get back surgery because my back is in too bad a condition. So the shots helps with the pain. They say if you ever have back problems , you will always have back problems. Take care of your back while your young.

Seventeen doctors and 8 years. Everyone had a different opinion. Had an MRI and the top surgeon in Augusta, GA recommends a certain proceedure. Just as I am being wheeled into the operating room he says he does not like what he sees looking at the latest MRI. Go for a florascope (?) and they find a broken facset bone. When you have x-rays or MRI's they want you to be still. Sometimes they need to see motion. Best of luck to you both.

Thanks guys. We used to have quite a bit of aphids on ours too, in addition to the weevils that would sting them. Didn't want to use the Liquid Sevin stuff, but that's the only way we were able to keep them clean. Thankfully we only had to spray them twice.
