Make the Perfect Head Swap in Photoshop

We'll start by the extensive use of Layers and Masks to make the right placement of the head in the new body. Using the Clone Stamp tool to erase the previous head to avoid distractions.
Then, we will match the luminosity or the brightness of both the elements using the power of Curves and Check Layers. This will be followed by matching the color using the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer and the Color Blend Mode.
We'll take advantage of dodging and burning to perfect the lighting. In the edit, we will add some special effects and filters to make the head and the body one. For both the elements to match having a similar skin tone, similar lighting, and similar if not the same angle is extremely essential.

I have a suggestion, if I may: when I'm swapping out a head, the size and the placement are, of course, critical. Now, people should realize that psychologically, the most important feature of a person's face is their eyes. So I find that the best way to make the replacement head match the original one is to line the eyes up. To do that, I adjust the transparency of the replacement head so I can see through it JUST enough to be able to line the left eyes up. Then I re-size the whole overlay proportionately (holding down shift as I drag a corner node) so the right eyes line up. (Sometimes I have to rotate the overlay a little, too.) When I'm done, I return the transparency of the overlay to 100%. If I do it carefully, I am frequently surprised at how well the finished size and placement matches the original head. As I said, just a tip -- and thanks so much for all your INVALUABLE help!

I wish I would have seen this tutorial about 3 years ago! I get to do this every day in my job. We call it "popping heads" and I have to do it for 20 people every month and make a humorous print piece. Many of my techniques I have just found on my own and coupled them with tutorials like this but I have never known to use the blend if sliders and the curves to match luminosity and shine. I have been using select color and working the red and neutral sliders to match color and tone but I think I am going to use the hue and saturation it seems to work better.

For Colour match, I usually adjust the RGB channels individually, which is much easier to handle, because you only adjusting the greyscale brightness value at a time, so when the greyscale image of the Red channel head match to the body, then I will move on to the Green channel to match the greyscale, and finally do the same to the Blue channel.

Amazing job, but the 4th criteeria I think is most important is the quality of both images. They have to be similiar in detail and resolution, otherwise it will still look "weird". This I think is a little bit this case as well - amazing corrections but the images are simply different quality :)
